My Banksy DT project feed back, by spunge on Apr 1, 2007 14:47:49 GMT 1, I don't know if any of you remember but a while back I posted a thread about a skirt that I was making for my DT project. Well, after 6 weeks painstaking work I finished it. For my evaluation though I need feed back from my target audience: Banksy fans. That's where you all come in. It'd be MUCH appriciated if you could give me some feed back on my final product, a mini evaluation in your opinion. Thanks a lot, Jo

My Banksy DT project feed back, by spunge on Apr 1, 2007 15:47:32 GMT 1, Ok I don't mean to hassel but I've noticed there's been a lot of views on my post but no feedback. Does this mean you don't think it's a successful design? Bearing in mind it's inspired by Banksy, not claiming to be Banksy. The specific references to Banksy on my skirt: - The pocket is meant to be the steps on Bristol city hall fountain, and the gray image comming out of the pocket is the suba diver 'pulling the plug on city hall'. -The strips of red ribbon around the skirt, if you look closely the gold images on them is the same as the pattern Bansksy painted onto the elephant in LA. -I had to develop this pattern, and noticed it resembled arrows; so I made my arrows patch (front) and the arrows going along the bottom -The red arrow facing the other way represents Bansksy's 'non-conformity' -And of course, the embroiderd Banksy graffiti tag. Please, please reply! Any feed back would be MUCH appriciated! It doesn't matter if you wouldn't wear this skirt yourself. Thanks again, Jo

My Banksy DT project feed back, by stuey09 on Apr 1, 2007 16:02:32 GMT 1, Hi Jo.
It's difficult for me to comment being a bloke. Normally things I buy my wife are exchanged within 48 hours for something she actually likes. So my views on what looks good and what doesn't, in relation to ladies clothes are quite flawed. But I wish you luck all the same.

My Banksy DT project feed back, by spunge on Apr 1, 2007 16:12:44 GMT 1, Thanks anyway. I reccon quite a lot of people haven't replied for the same reason. Any take on it from the point of view of just any Banksy fan would be appricated. About 80% of the people I've asked so far refered to the Banksy tag I put on as a Logo that they presumed I had thought up myself.

i think it looks crap but i generally dislike the DIY ethic and prefer slimmer skirts on women...
The Banksy inspiration, other than the one-off tag patch, does not really come across....

My Banksy DT project feed back, by corblimeylimey on Apr 1, 2007 16:40:19 GMT 1, I'm like Stuey, but I'll have a go.
I would like to see more obvious Banksy ideas, instead of the arrows but in a similar vain you could have put the cut out dashes with the scissors icon, also it might have been fun to have a Banksy police tape effect around the waist band (Polite Line Do Not Get Cross)
But what do I know, and it's all well and good suggesting things but they're probably very dificult to do in practice.
Well done for trying, I've got to say I wouldn't wear the skirt myself, but then again I'm a bloke ;D

My Banksy DT project feed back, by spunge on Apr 1, 2007 16:42:58 GMT 1, My initial designs had more direct references to Banksy's work however I had to change them due to the requirements specified by the exam board. As nice as more direct references would have been, I wouldn't have got higher than about a D for my design. The marks in design come from developing ideas and images. Thanks for the feedback though.

I actually have an O-level as well as an A-level certificate... and right now I'm working on a PhD.
So does that mean once I'm done, I'm gonna have 3 PhD's? ;D
Who wants to have my babies? thwaites? gm? spunge? ;D

All the very best of luck... let us know how it goes for ya!

My Banksy DT project feed back, by azlan on Apr 3, 2007 0:23:39 GMT 1, Hey Spunge! Great effort with your project. (Not easy posting your own work on these forums!)
However it's still very difficult to help critique a project without seeing your rough work and progression through the project to the finished item.
Looking at it here and from reading it's description it seems you may have got too caught up with which content to put on the skirt and not how you might use them. In that I mean you appear to have collected various 'parts' of Banksy work and simply stitched them onto a skirt. Perhaps you should have focused on Banksy's techniques and ability to place his work for maximum effect. Also find it difficult to see your Banksy link in a cream cheerleader-esque skirt design.
Questions: • Was the brief to design and make a skirt? If so, what were the primary requirements?
• Did you choose Banksy as your subject matter? • How do you feel you did with the project?
