I need this forum's help., by goffy on Mar 16, 2007 22:59:57 GMT 1, I have posted this on the limited edition prints thread but I think I need to bring it out on here.
I have a signed Gangsta Rat edition number **/750. But I have read and been told that this was a print run of only 500, 150 signed, 350 unsigned not 750. I emailed Dora at POW about it and she said that it was a edition of 750 and that it could have been numbered out of /150, /600 0r /750. But that it was all from the same edition! Is this true? Seems strange Dora would say that if it wasn't. And I could have swore myself that the run was 750. Can anyone prove without doubt how big the edition was, if they could I would be very grateful.
And thanks to rklimek and hungrig for their earlier contribution.

PoW doesn't operate in consistency to an exact science, especially not in the earlier stages. Dora is definitely telling the truth (why would she lie?)... some of the earlier prints had only 1 edition number (e.g. all prints were numbered out of 750), but only the earlier numbers (say, 1-150) were signed. Strictly separate signed/unsigned runs didn't come until later.
So I wouldn't worry if I were you, Dora's basically given you her word!

I need this forum's help., by Daniel Silk on Mar 16, 2007 23:36:01 GMT 1, I dont know if Dora was around at POW at the time of the Gangsta Rats but they should be Signed/150 and Unsigned/350 for sure. I think your best bet is to get in contact with Ben at POW

AgentBacardi,
One has to bear in mind that Dora has not been with POW very long. If I recall, she arrived around mid- to end-2006. She therefore doesn't have the history. It isn't a question of Dora telling the truth or lying, but whether she knows what she is talking about. In this case, she simply got it wrong.

Whoops, I stand corrected then. It isn't the first time this topic cropped up before, and I've heard of other prints being numbered inconsistently too... which is why I assumed Dora knew what she was talking about.
OH you know what goffyxtc? You should ask numusic (or nuart... whatever he's nuknown as these nudays). He would definitely know, methinks

I need this forum's help., by goffy on Mar 17, 2007 10:48:01 GMT 1, Has anyone got any other proof of the edition number other than what is on their prints. Something like lesroy's 'POW....Back in the day' would be great.

Here goes. Edition of 500. My guess then 150 + 350.

I need this forum's help., by slowmo on Mar 17, 2007 11:31:23 GMT 1, Sorry to cause confusion, but you can argue with that. Use the link below and go through to banksy, press order for Gangster rat on page 2, shows the edition of being 250, 1-75 signed and 1-175 numbered. Who knows how it got to 500!
Previous link did not work, CORRECTION
1. log on to web.archive.org/web/ 2. in the take me back tab, enter www.picturesonwalls.com 3. select Jan 07 2006 from the list of dates 4. Guide yourself through the POW website to banksy 5. on page 2 gangster rat is for sale, press order 6. There is the real edition number before it sold out
Now imagine being able to actually order all the things you could have bought at the start of 2006!
Just to be clear, I would take POW's word for it being whatever edition they say it is as they don't have a great track record of organisation and from archives alone you can get 2 different edition numbers that appeared on their page.
