After Banksy, by sammyman on Feb 21, 2007 7:06:08 GMT 1, Which artist will sell out the fastest on POW? Yesterday, prints went pretty fast with McLauchlan and Insect. Makes me wonder who will follow. I imagine the order would be like...
1. Banksy (< 1 min)
2. Micallef (< 5 min)
3. Etc......

McLauchlan within ten minutes and Eine within about an hour. Many people will buy to sell/ swap but that's how it is now. All POW can do is limit buyers to one print each and ensure that they have reasonable size print runs- 750 not 75!

Just because they were so rare they felt if they were able to attain one then they should. This kinds of hype / panic buying denies the people that actually like the artist a chance to buy. I'm sure there are already people with regrets, even more so in a few years time when their "investment" isn't worth anything.
The artist contributes but ultimately POW controls who will sell out. If they made a big announcement about new prints in a week, with people fully expecting it to be Banksy but actually releasing prints by blu they would still sell out in <5min.
Maybe I'm just jaded that I can't afford any prints on the secondary market but it all seems to be about hype / pr now as opposed to the actual image.

Shows the collectors, scalpers, carpetbaggers whoever wants a print, what they are going to get and how ever many people buy the print that becomes the size of the edition. Perfect. Secondary market is minimal.
