£500(ish) to spend, by chunkymcfunky on Jun 5, 2007 13:42:44 GMT 1, It's bonus time!!
That means I have £500(ish) quid to spend on "a piece of paper" (her words, not mine!)
What is that chance that some nice forum person wants to part with an unsigned Banksy of some description?
If it something you really need more money for, try me anyway. I might be able to go a bit further (although our holiday may then be a lot closer to home).
Thanks in advance.

£500(ish) to spend, by corblimeylimey on Jun 5, 2007 14:31:19 GMT 1, I thought you'd get a Grannies too but looking at the completed listings on ebay it looks like a lot of stuff has crept up about £100 while I wasn't looking, eg Grannies, Applause & Flag, now seem to be around £600, £700 & £500 respectively.
It looks like your budget may need to be increased to £550 - £700 to be able to get any one mentioned above or Virgin Mary, one of the Rats (but not Radar) I Fought The Law (£500) or Morons.

£500(ish) to spend, by alderevans2007 on Jun 5, 2007 14:40:25 GMT 1, I just bout a grannies for 600. My first banksy to frame and keep. I have got a horrible feeling that I was too hasty and I have just bought at the top end of an increase in unsigned prints values. what do you think?
Although alot of people have said it. If you are buying to keep, then you cant really go wrong.

£500(ish) to spend, by slowmo on Jun 5, 2007 14:57:59 GMT 1, Grannies is one of my favourite prints he has ever made, £600 is no problem if you're keeping. Good purchase, I always spend about 4 minutes a day just looking at it.

£500(ish) to spend, by pezlow on Jun 5, 2007 15:39:31 GMT 1, Thing is that the LA prints were all between £200 and £300 to buy anyway from POW so really if you look at it that way the markup is not that huge. I think grannies is a great print.

Yes they were £500ish for a long time, but if you look in completed items you'll find they've gone up and £600 is perhaps a more realistic price now.
alderevans2007 I too can confirm Grannies is a great print IMO as I have one too and looks great next to J&J (expect to pay high £600's - £800) one on ebay now no bids at £500.
Bristolmassive also has the same pair.

£500(ish) to spend, by alderevans2007 on Jun 5, 2007 17:43:10 GMT 1, Thats exactly how I want to frame my grannies. Do you mind if I ask how much the frame job was? I am probably going to fo for fully consevation materials, uv glass, spacers etc. Any rough ideas on how I much I will have to fork out?

£500(ish) to spend, by corblimeylimey on Jun 5, 2007 17:46:27 GMT 1, £100 - £150 without UV non reflective glass, if you're in London or another big city I'm sure you'd get a better price.
Mine aren't box framed so they don't have spacers, but are conservation standard.

£500(ish) to spend, by corblimeylimey on Jun 5, 2007 18:11:07 GMT 1, I think yours look better than mine bristolmassive, I bought the J&J ready framed from Art Republic so I did Grannies to match rather than starting from scratch.
Knowing what I now know I'd do it better. Still happy with them though, certainly not worth the expense of getting them re-done.

thanks CBL - I actually took a print-out of your two into the framers with me but decided to use something chunkier. I think I could of matched your chrome ones exactly using Nielsen frames.

£500(ish) to spend, by alderevans2007 on Jun 5, 2007 18:38:00 GMT 1, those look great bristolmassive. i have always wondered about the quality of a proffesional frame compared to a habitiat frame. too me that looks the same as a habitat frame (no disrepsect). what is it like up close. is there a noticable difference in the quality?
Ive thought about buying consevation mountboard, spacers, glass off the shelf and do it myself, but dont want a cheap habitat frame. but if there is no difference then why not.

Habitat do make good frames, but not one that would suit both Grannies and J&J.
You could put a J&J in a 70 x 50 but it wouldn't look as good as it would with a border mount, and their 70 x 100 frame would give you an uneven border so that wouldn't look right either.
If you're paying £500 - £700 for a print it deserves at least £100 spending on it to show it at it's best.

£500(ish) to spend, by discoduster on Jun 5, 2007 19:00:21 GMT 1, BM Thats a nice job, very tasty.
Justa thought, try using a triple mount with one the same colour as the main colour of the print (a pink border mount would finish that Grannies print off lovely) Just having it done with Mona XL.
Someone also did it with a Pulp Fiction print and the yellow border compliments the whole of the print without being a distraction.

Habitat sell 80x60 frames as well... i've done quite a few of mine in those, with an acid-free mount made to measure from the framer guy at the market!

£500(ish) to spend, by chunkymcfunky on Jun 5, 2007 21:19:27 GMT 1, Thanks for the advice
I have been offered one morons so far.
Typical, I only have 3, and that's one of them (only just paid off the credit card)
Not that I expect to be offered a barcode or a laugh now for £500, but those are the other two.
Flags, Grannies, Applause all welcome
Cheers

bristolmassive, not seen your's before, WOW! if i had those two i'd have to go with a job like that as i already have a silver neilsen frame on show.
apart from that, i couldn't pick between them, wish it was a real dilema though.
chunkymcfunky, flags is a wicked print, first thing i see every day when i walk through the front door. just make sure you can verify the condition of it perfectly. no fingerprints on it and no creases. due to the chromalux paper it is vulnerable to both i'm afraid. best to get a mint one and put it in a frame on the wall for safe keeping
