Art-O-Meter, by rickyc on Jan 4, 2007 10:38:44 GMT 1, The idea is quite good, but not that realistic.
I can go to the Tate Modern with my friend, breeze through a lot of it and stop and enjoy the images I like the most for a minute or 2.
She, on the other hand, stops and looks at everything for an age, whether she likes it or not - just to scope the full meaning behind the image (while I'm standing behind her screaming 'JUST MOVE ON! ITS A CANVAS, PAINTED BLUE!!!')
I think a fairer system would be (best case I can think of) an IMDB type rating, where EVERYONE gives it a rating out of 5 or 10, then it will give an overall average (3.4 out of 234 votes)
Just my thoughts as a marketer, but I do really like the concept behind 'vote-tallied art'. It would be interesting to walk into a gallery and see what other people enjoy

Not to mention what if someone doesn't understand what the painting is/means and stands there for ages just to try and figure it out. that would actually be a bad painting because it did not properly convey its message.

I think its a pretty good idea ;D
Its not so much about if the people like the artwork, its more about does it make them think and do they find it interesting they might think its crap! but they have taken that time to think about it ;D
Most of us have Banksy's and such on our walls, and the ones that catch people eye and they ask you about are not always the ones they like the most, they would probably say they would never buy anything like that themselves, but the one they really liked would be the one they just walked straight past.

Interestingly, if I had an art o meter over christmas with all the friends and family I had over, flags would have been the most popular, pretty much everyone asked who had done it and a few wanted one. Granted however that I only have 3 banksy's on the walls at the moment

or a stupid person I'm tired of the 'i like what i like' justification for not liking difficult art. They're not cartoons !
