How Banksy manages to hide his identity?, by lesroy on Oct 14, 2006 8:59:59 GMT 1, I think it's a sad bunch of comments.
1) The police have a million more important things to do that actively "hunt" Banksy down... he's a graf artist yeah, but he is one of the better ones... eg... doesnt just scrawl "Dave f**ked rebecca in the c**t here" and leave offensive notes.
2) Does the writer live in a cave? Since when do British police go to work and say "oh yeah boss I've got an assignment today.. I have decided to hunt down Banksy (or any other f**ker for that matter).
3) I'd imagine Banksy has his own friends who know exactely who/where he is... it's not a big secret, they just dont go bragging about their mate in order to get him in the s**t.
4) Who ever said that the person in the Paris vid was Banksy? Lets remember, Banksy is the artist and guy that thought up the idea... I doubt he would go into all 50 record shops dropping the cd's back off... (whilst showing his gold bracelet saying... " to my darling Banksy... from your doting mother")
WHAT A LOAD OF s**t!
Lets just hope that Police don't do an armed raid of Laz.inc.... arrest MR Laz and hold him to ransom until Banksy crawls in "tail" between his legs to apologise.... man he'd probably have a can of paint and a "Banksy Tag" stencil in his pocket if this f**ker is anything to be believed.

How Banksy manages to hide his identity?, by mido on Oct 14, 2006 13:15:41 GMT 1, yeah, what a load of old guff. we will have to get used to stuff like this and Charlie Brooker's piece. it comes with the territory. It's all just a game. Anonymity means it's hard to defend yourself. who cares anyway?
1) Loads of people must know banksy, and have met him. so what. he has friends, family, helpers, suppliers. Just like any human being. I assume he also has the plumbers around sometimes, and goes to the doctor, dentist etc. he's not f**king superman.
2) He merely feels it is better not to be well known (photos on books, turning up to arty things) and that that will help his do his work. Other graffiti artists are relatively happy to be more visible. Whether either method is a marketing ploy or not I don't frankly care. As long the 'anonymity' thing does NOT make people think he's cool and they like his art because of that. Either you like his stuff or you don't - don't let the 'cool' or 'mysterious' factor cloud your judgement.
3) I do know of cases where cops are 'after' people, but they don't seem to try too hard. of course someone could track him down (and other graff artists), but as they couldn't prove much, I imagine they can't be bothered. There have been several cases (often high profile) of young lads (those are invariably the ones who get caught) going to jail for graffiti usually for tagging and throw ups.
4) I said at the time that if you watch the making of Paris Hilton video I would assume that two different people are shown 'making' them (one time the hands have a wedding ring on, one time not - men very rarely remove their weedding ring - except in late night bars ) . I would also imagine that Banksy didn't put all the copies in the shops. I used to work at HMV and ironically there would be more chance of being 'caught' by putting these copies into shops (although I'm not sure what they could charge you with!), than of spraying a massive piece late at night. If our security guard had NOT seen someone acting so suspciously (coat over the arm! etc) I think he would have been sacked

How Banksy manages to hide his identity?, by shtoja on Oct 14, 2006 17:54:04 GMT 1, actually his messages are sometimes offensive, but politically offensive.. so that is sort of a reason for the cops... and although I don't agree with most of the theories in that article (arrangement with city of London.. hahah) I think that Banksy IS on Paris Hilton punked video, because when you come up with idea like that, half of enjoyment is dropping the cd's, like a grand finale of a great idea... I doubt he would miss it.
and I couldn't agree more with this
and just one more thing
.. that was strange to me also. coat over the arm is something pretty suspicious looking. He was pretty lucky for not getting busted with that coat, although, as you said, what they could charge him with?

How Banksy manages to hide his identity?, by KaL976 on Oct 22, 2006 4:09:15 GMT 1, Oh man, I just read the article in the link - please, for the love of kittens don't tell me that fool actually got paid for typing that?!
ffs if there's one good reason He chooses to keep His identity out of His art, [apart from the obvious legal ramifications of painting trains] it's so fools like that don't have a chance of following Him around for the rest of His life.
The Police aren't actively looking for Him, same as they're not actively looking for any writers... They mostly show up if someone calls them or you're unlucky & they happen to be passing &/or give a shit. The BTP could well be a different story, but seeing as they aren't even considered 'real' coppers by the rest of the Force we won't worry too much about them, bless [they do however have the most comprehensive photo record of UK train graf - such a shame we'll never see it. fuckers]
But essentially, no one cares about 'finding' banksy apart from shitty journo's looking for a quick buck.

How Banksy manages to hide his identity?, by andrewd on Oct 23, 2006 20:34:32 GMT 1, Prince Harry is definitely not getting a commissioned Banksy....see Banksy's website. Anyway ยฃ15,000 wouldn't buy you a Banksy canvas today!! Whether the name is Robin or Robert doesn't matter, neither does if it's his photo on the Brian Sewell website ( or the one published in the Evening Standard last year...supposedly of Banksy painting in the Carribean ) Banksy tells you all need to know in his paintings and shuns the cult of personality and fame. Nothing wrong with being curious though!!

Neither of those links working Al. Just as a warning, people weren't very happy last time his pic was posted here. Just a heads up for ya! It's not like we havent all looked before anyway! Personally I dont care who he is/what he looks like (just looking out of interest of course : as long as he keeps banging stuff out. He has been quoted as saying the real image of him would shatter some 15 year olds illusions!!

How Banksy manages to hide his identity?, by alvington89 on Oct 30, 2006 23:16:57 GMT 1, I like the self depreciating way he describes himself as 'ugly' in the Youtube interview and love the mental image I have of an unlikely hero who has produced this amazing body of work, subverting ideas and well known icons. It is obvious now that he will go down as one of the greatest artists of the 21st century. I am dissapointed in myself that I did not see the emerging cultural significance, particularly as I have seen his work in Art Republic in Brighton prior to him receiving proper recognition. In hindsight it all seems very obvious now, particularly as he was always in the media... Makes it all the more fascinating to wonder what he actually looks like.
