Real old skool graffiti..., by HowAboutNo on Aug 16, 2006 1:22:48 GMT 1, Well, at least for me anyway, am 31..and at the tender age of 9 (1984) I discovered this book (via my 5 years older Brother who was in a posse ;D - post to follow later of the one tag that still exists 21 years later in our home town )
If you havent seen this book get a copy now! Not at all stencil based so be warned all you freakophiles!
Am sure there lots of theories of where "modern" graffiti started, but I dont think anywhere really came close to the huge diversity of America (am preparing to be blown out of the water with "graffiti won wars quotes... etc")
Also remembered that in the early 80's (for me) mostly spawned by the films Breakdance 1 & 2 (Eletric Boogaloo!) and Beat Street, was that it was second nature to have your "Tag" name assigned to you.
Cos I was the smallest of our crew, I was the Munchkin...later shortened to Munch, with a little Pac Man symbol on it. Will try to remember it and jot it down one day..my bruv is tons better than me but not got the time nowadays.
Anyone else have and origins of "first memories" of graffiti, or more specifically if you had a tag name and a tag you designed you can share?

Real old skool graffiti..., by mido on Aug 16, 2006 1:33:00 GMT 1, no real strong memories of graffiti per se (maybe just the scrawls on 'the pipe' in Vicky park in bath or at the 'Centre 69' youth centre - who the F thought of that name!!), but was into the break dance films and a friend's older brother had the fabled 'Jam on It' 12" by Neucleus. Remember practising spins and stuff. ;D
wasn't in a posse or anything. I've usually ploughed my own farrow in life.
have heard of the subway art book, but only recently....
