What Next From Mr Banksy?, by Daniel Silk on May 24, 2006 13:06:38 GMT 1, What do you think is gonna happen next? ;D
1. A few new Banksy Prints appear on the POW website in a couple of weeks time Unsigned £75 each & Signed £150 each. These would then sell out in a few days or weeks.
2. A few new Banksy Prints appear on the POW website in a couple of weeks time Unsigned £200 each & Signed £500 each. These would then sell a little slower than the more affordable prints that we have seen before.
3. No new prints, and Banksy only produces canvases that are sold by Lazinc for £10,000+
4. Banksy makes new prints under a new name such as Dolk or Eelus (I'm not saying they are him) so that people are only buying the prints they like and not just coz they are Banksy.
Can you think of any other options? What do you think is most likely to happen? What one would you like to happen?

What Next From Mr Banksy?, by monochrome on May 24, 2006 14:24:26 GMT 1, No gain in paying £100-200 for an 'unknown' artist even if you think their work is genius. I bought Bomb Middle England & WSM cause they were £32 and Banksy was 'famous' then.
I personally would like to see an end to the £150 signed prints - although marketing a new price would be harder, I'm sure Grin Reaper has shown the way forward ie. anyone can get one if they want. Plus they don't sell out in days.
I've heard rumours, counter rumours regarding what Banksy does next in terms of prints. Remember folks, he doesn't get involved in the printing process, or the making of the screens - he just signs them and probably overseas the early print process. So based on that I can't see him stopping making prints. After all, its a good cash cow bringing in £120,000 just for Grin Reaper alone - minus costs obviously. But it's profitable nonetheless. I'm glad that prints are moving forward with quality - the original 2/3 colour prints are becoming complex, greater quality yet retaining the simplicity.
Anyway, I ramble on.... I'd like to see £300 prints, 200 edition all signed. But I'd like to see 3 or 4 prints released all at once.

What Next From Mr Banksy?, by mido on May 24, 2006 14:45:58 GMT 1, I DON'T believe for a minute that he won't do prints in the future.
I have absolutely NO evidence for this at all. It's just the way I feel.
He has many, many ideas that could be made into prints - surely it would be good to have some of these out as prints. It's easy money. It keeps his name alive. It pleases people. part of the ethos is 'affordable art'.
I don't think it is massively broke so why fix it? One of the main problems was the POW ordering system, and then POW having to spend their time fire fighting and taking abuse from load mouthed idiots. The 'problem' isn't (I think) about the prints themselves.
Banksy is really popular. Great! Not a problem. Any artist, musician, film maker etc who say they don't want people to buy / see their work is a liar, or were born with a silver spoon in their mouth and don't need the cash.

What Next From Mr Banksy?, by monochrome on May 24, 2006 15:18:21 GMT 1, aye - i agree, he shouldn't rest on his laurels. there is nothing to gain by stopping making prints, whether they are mass produced, limited, signed etc. its about put a piece of paper on a wall in a house, squat, bungalow etc.
whether the street art will continue is another debate - after all, if he was 'caught' then they may look at the money he has made from art and fine him appropriately..... maybe. don't quote me on this.
but as you say, there is no evidence, just hearsay; the last being Art Republic according to a poster on the ebay forum.

What Next From Mr Banksy?, by gm on May 26, 2006 22:33:40 GMT 1, I don't really care what direction he takes in future. As long as I occasionally spot a new piece on the streets I'll be happy.
