Police have arrested a man believed to be the borough's most prolific graffiti 'tagger' after he was spotted by Barnet Council's eagle-eyed CCTV operators.
The Banksy wannabe was found in possession of spray paint and more than 200 images of graffiti tags were found on his mobile phone.
Cameras picked up the 19-year-old in Montrose Park, Burnt Oak, just after 10pm on Monday March 30 and council CCTV operatives directed police officers in the area to him.
Police arrested the man and he has been bailed to return as further investigations continue.
The arrest is not the first time this year that police have worked side by side wtih the borough's CCTV team to snare criminals and troublemakers. Several cash machine thieves have been arrested since January, along with a man spotted stabbing another man in West Hendon in March.
Councillor Brian Coleman, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Community Engagement, said: "Graffiti is one of the factors that makes residents feel unsafe and raises fear of crime, as well as being an unsightly nuisance.
"This arrest, of a man believed to be Barnet's most prolific 'tagger', will send out a message loud and clear to other vandals intent on spoiling our beautiful borough.
"We do not tolerate graffiti vandalism, and will work with our partners in the police to bring those responsible for it to justice."
