Tel Aviv graffiti / streetart, by nombei on Jan 25, 2009 8:29:27 GMT 1, in non boycott / war related news regarding Israel, i spent the past week in Tel Aviv and will be here through thursday. while here, i've been roaming the streets of Tel Aviv checking out the local graffiti / streetart action (in addition to the work trip i'm on).
for the most part in central Tel Aviv i've seen lots of tags by korse, kize, geza, coca, and drom along with lots of flowers by inspire. hoping to see more than just tags, i went by the Capzoola graf shop and chatted with the guys there. they clued me on some neighborhoods to check out and i spent the better part of saturday roaming around those areas.
to peep out what i found you can check my flickr dump: www.flickr.com/photos/freetime_productions/sets/72157612669629628/
here's a teaser shot of a piece by Klone:

Tel Aviv graffiti / streetart, by nombei on Jan 25, 2009 12:54:26 GMT 1, i'll have to see if i can find that place. Jaffa is about a 5 - 10 minute walk from where i'm staying.
i'm no photographer, but i'm glad you liked the pics!

Tel Aviv graffiti / streetart, by Mike Marcus on Jan 25, 2009 13:20:18 GMT 1, Abu Hassan is also known as Ali Karavan. I would argue whether it does the best hummous though. You will find that subject to be every bit as emotive as football is in England :-)
Are you staying in Florentin, Nombei?

Tel Aviv graffiti / streetart, by nombei on Jan 25, 2009 13:27:52 GMT 1, i'm at the David Inter, so not far from Jaffa and Florentin. i had never wandered around Florentin before, but the guys at Capzoola tipped me off to that area.
as i was there on a saturday, pretty much everything was closed... looked like there were a lot of cool little shops in that area though, so i'll have to go there on a day when things are open.

Tel Aviv graffiti / streetart, by Mike Marcus on Jan 25, 2009 13:39:15 GMT 1, People in florentin are really complaining about gentrification. It used to be very different a few years ago. No boutiques etc. Quite raw. There was a big buff about a year ago but before that the street art was the best I have ever seen anywhere in the world. The best street to check out in Florentin is Woolfson between Hertzel and Abarvenel, go down the little side alleys at the bottom where the dumpsters are and come out on Abarvanel next to the Hudna pub (on the left there is one of the best walls which survived the buff). Then cross the street and explore the industrial zone where you will find more big stuff by know hope etc.
Also check out the Noga area between Florentin and Jaffa. There was a street art festival there about 4 years ago and there are still some really nice works that have survived.
Let me know if you see any of my tear gas portraits still knocking around.

Tel Aviv graffiti / streetart, by nombei on Jan 25, 2009 14:18:51 GMT 1, wow! thanks for all the info and for adding artists names.
i fly out on thursday, so i'm not sure if i will have much chance to explore Florentin more thanks to work. if i do, i'll go down the streets you mentioned and keep an eye out for your work.

Tel Aviv graffiti / streetart, by Mike Marcus on Jan 25, 2009 14:37:56 GMT 1, Also if you want to find a hidden gem, look out for stickers and small pasteups by Shamelessness. Certainly the most underated street artist in Tel Aviv (and also a wonderful person)
