Bringing Banksy into childrens lifes Advice needed, by leecd on Jan 7, 2009 21:47:11 GMT 1, Hello
I am a primary school teacher in Bristol. I am about to start an after school art club at my school in which children are going to create their own piece of contemporary art based on the work of banksy photos from my collection. I have a budget of around £200 from parents for 20 children. Just wanted some advice on what stencils, materials will work best within budget and any advice that would ensure the best results possible. Any support would be fantastic I just want to get the bests results possible for the cgildren. Many thanks Peeps!

Bringing Banksy into childrens lifes Advice needed, by leecd on Jan 8, 2009 19:40:43 GMT 1, Cheers. Its amazing how inspired children are by contemporary art and the messages behind them. Just wanted to give the children an opportunity to begin creating our artists of the future.

Bringing Banksy into childrens lifes Advice needed, by AxB on Jan 8, 2009 20:21:21 GMT 1, hey hey i've done quite a few projects in my classroom based on contemporary art and the kids respond really well to it i find. as a good starting point i made a pack of 100 printouts of art pieces, from right across the spectrum, and let the kids choose what they like, 9 out of 10 will go for modern/contemporary i found, and its really interesting to hear why they choose who they choose although i must say banksy never wins too many votes as i think much of his work demands a wider prior knowledge that most primary school kids just dont have i found dface, fairey, liechtenstein, warhol, nara, os gemeos etc all prove popular, i think because the strong graphic / cartoon type imagery is familiar and easy to relate to we have then gone on to produce work inspired by the likes of opie, xenz, warhol, invader (great for maths) etc in class,we also had dave the chimp come visit our school for two days to work with the kids which was amazing, i have done walking tours of local graf and asked locals for their opinions, we have made stencils and painted them around the school playground, actually one really good thing to do is get intouch with your local sign making company and get all their old vinyl sticker off cuts to make stickers with, with made 100 sets of cartoon eyes and covered the place in them ! anyways i have gone on sorry , please let me know what you get up to and get intouch if i can be any help
