Street art, by Mike Marcus on Jan 11, 2009 16:38:24 GMT 1, Hi all.
I'm very interested in whether people who buy "urban art" prints have an interest in actual street art (ie. in the street).
I'm primarily asking this question because the artists who's print work seems to generate most attention on this forum are the ones who are hardly ever (if ever) seen on the street (Banksy, Walker, Neate, Small, etc). Conversely, artists whos work is most appreciated on the street seem to generate little attention here when they release a print.
Have urban art and street art separated into two discreet genres?

Street art, by rdl81 on Jan 11, 2009 16:44:18 GMT 1, I look at art on the street if i see something and its good...not a fan of tagging etc. One thing I would like to add is that StudoCromie have links below the prints to the street art of the image which i think is a great idea. That said i like art for the image whether its a print or a pic of a street piece. I am a big fan of invader have a few of his books etc but none of his prints as dont think they look that great on paper...same with blu to a degree

Street art, by pezlow on Jan 11, 2009 18:44:42 GMT 1, With the exception of small (who I wouldn't call a street artist) all of the artists mentioned have a long pedigree of putting stuff on the streets. Banksy used to be prolific and still conducts huge bombing campaigns - New Orleans for example.
Walker has a long history of doing graff for more than 20+ years in and around bristol. His output on the streets may have slowed down now but he is still getting stuff up.
Neate has left thousands of paintings on the street over the years and left 1000 prints on the streets not 2 months ago.

Totally agree. Quality not quantity.

Street art, by astro on Jan 11, 2009 19:26:07 GMT 1, It's interesting to walk around the streets with friends who aren't really as into street art as I am, they seem quite oblivious to it all. I'm like "Hey lookat that, it's amazing" they just nod and agree. Or when weondering around Brick Lane they don't seem to nose down the side alleys and see what's there. Meanwhile I'm walking down pickuing up all these little things having a great time. I went slightly off topic but that's just something I've been thinking about.

once you're established, street pieces tend to slow down & in some cases, become legal
i don't know if it's because you're not really interested in their work but to say banksy, neate & walker don't get up
in 2008 banksy bombed nola then new york, neate painted a fair few walls in brazil & distibuted 1000 pieces around london & walker decorated the uk/us too
