Calling all patrons of vandalism as an artform, by thebleedingedge on Jun 6, 2008 13:37:20 GMT 1, Just to keep you in the loop, I am 100% sorted out, I have emulsion, I have spray, I know what I'm hitting and when. The plan has changed slightly in that I will be getting to cover more of this city with paint than I originally planned, so it should be a nice busy weekend (for myself and the old bill), hope you enjoy the show.
I won't be anywhere near a PC and won't be on the internet, so the next time you see me will be afterwards.
Laters..

Calling all patrons of vandalism as an artform, by thebleedingedge on Jun 10, 2008 6:16:05 GMT 1, Nicked... rain... lol, it would take more than a few drips (oh and the rain) to stop me. Well regardless I am back after a 3 day vandalism spree.
On Friday right before I left I read the following post:
looking forward to seeing this....quite a buzz surrounding it!
After I read that I realised that to some people it didn't matter what I put up, simply because there was a buzz and to others they would hate on it simply because they felt I was abrasive at times which is everything I am against since it shits on what I consider to be our voice. It plays into the hands of people who think that they get to decide who is up and who isn't simply because they like street art, signed up to a forum, know a gallery owner and take pictures of walls. Of course that's how traditional art works, but our art is far from traditional.
I had a once off soap box to stand on, so I decided rather than doing my personal image that would be viewed by people who had no idea what I was about yet, I thought I might try give everyone here a lesson in the art of vandalism, how the art is the act and how once you take the act out of the art you essentially kill it (or worse, make it into some pompous affair that is out of reach of the people we speak to, the people like us)
The first thing I did was change the image. Instead of one large personal piece, I have created two pieces that better describe what I am about, both images have been transferred to canvas as well for gironawatch. I also decided to put up several pieces that were unrelated to any of this (because I had the paint), 4 large stencils (all created, cut and sprayed on the weekend, I hit a police station as well and it is still standing), 1 freehand piece, 65 cheeky dubs including fills and outlines in every borough of London and even some tags (3 identities, 613 tags with 2 markers, because it's all part of the same thing, which is what I was getting at).
I had loads of cool things happen, and I'm planning on sticking it all in some sort of article to give you an idea of how little it actually takes, the article will also include techniques and tips (like how to get up a piece anywhere in central london at anytime without any of that high vis nonsense) and some grainy phone camera footage of my mission. No travelcard, no fags, no printers... no excuses, I'm hoping one of you might learn something from this whole ordeal, but if not, at least you got some pieces to love and tags to hate.
Before you get any images though, someone willing and able is going to need to hit me up for locations because all I have is night shots taken on a dodgy phone cam and as you can imagine I wasn't waiting around for too long to snap them.
I just need to carry out one last act of vandalism/art and give my patron a call and I'll get back to this thread to provide you with more juicy details and flicks of my 3 day escapade. Oh and sleep, I should probably sleep sometime too.

Calling all patrons of vandalism as an artform, by thebleedingedge on Jun 10, 2008 6:21:20 GMT 1, Oh I forgot one thing, I also scrawled 3 versus (lyrics) on 3 different locations, it's a bit different, it's something you do have to stand at a wall and read to take in, it's not as immediate, but just read the words....

Calling all patrons of vandalism as an artform, by Heavyconsumer on Jun 10, 2008 6:31:20 GMT 1, you had trustworthy forum members offer to take quality footage and you've returned with no decent images to share? I think that's a little disappointing, but of course, nice one for actually doing the pieces. Shame that us overseas types, won't get to see your results though!
Will you revisit the sites in daylight and take some pics for us?

Calling all patrons of vandalism as an artform, by thebleedingedge on Jun 10, 2008 6:54:39 GMT 1, Trustworthy to whom? Just to clarify, he didn't offer to take quality footage, he offered to film me whilst doing it, so firstly that limits me because it means I couldn't make the snap decisions about what and where that I did, and secondly let's not forget I just wrote a long post about how the art is the act, so sitting at a wall like some sort of graffiti superstar with a camera man would not fly.
Yeah we do usually come back to walls in the day to take flicks, but I have extremely limited resources right now, so I snapped my personal images using my phone for myself and my patron. Flicks will be posted, but I have one more very important act of vandalism to take care of and I feel since he did help me out when he didn't need to, and especially since he never asked anything of me at anytime, my patron gets his canvasses first. It's not over, keep your eyes peeled. It's all going to come together in a matter of hours, so sit tight.

Calling all patrons of vandalism as an artform, by thebleedingedge on Jun 10, 2008 21:08:51 GMT 1, Calm down younguns.... nobody will be seeing the two main images before gironawatch, I am trying to get to him tonight (well now sorta) so I can hand over the canvasses. One of the main pieces has hit flickr though, so if you're switched on enough, hit that up, if not just wait till girona has his stuff.

Calling all patrons of vandalism as an artform, by slowmo on Jun 10, 2008 23:35:33 GMT 1, So you said you would be putting up EDIT: I got excited and entered wild and fanciful things, such is my anticipation, but a large piece in zone 1. Now edited to original offer.
I'm sensing an anti-climax a little, but you still have me, get the story written up if you have to, but more interested in the art to be honest.

Calling all patrons of vandalism as an artform, by thebleedingedge on Jun 11, 2008 6:47:22 GMT 1, You guys just do it to yourselves.... No that aint me, sorta offended but moving on
SlowMo: Yes that is correct, I excercised my artistic freedom. No you didn't get 1 large piece in zone 1, instead you got 2 big pieces in zone 1 that are related (they work together or independant of each other to spell out what I do and what this art is really about) and loads of bits and pieces all over the place. I went all city with a new identity (dubbed the inside of a central line train, hit a police station), I re-did two canvasses and I scrawled poetry on walls for fucks sakes. I explained what the art is the best way I could with ยฃ80 in my pocket and did more than a lot of street artists that you pay money for have done in a career and all this with a court date on the 13th of June to get me evicted (for vandalism of course) and fuck knows how many unpaid criminal damage fines sitting on my shoulders for the judge to give me no leeway. So let's just keep this in perspective.
If you're interested in the art then you know the art is the act, that's what it was about for me, I had to show you that you don't get pieces without tags, that you don't get stencils without dubs, show you that diamonds are forged under pressure, that they are all linked, all the same thing.
I couldn't meet with Girona last night (not my fault) but I have arranged to do so tonight. About 5 minutes before I meet him, I will be using the last ยฃ2.50 to pull off one last act of vandalism...

Great video fella, thanks ;D
I must say, I've been quietly following this saga and my thoughts have turned from scepticism to intrigue.
At first I doubted your intentions and thought you were out to do nothing more than blag some free paint to publicise your own ego, but after reading your posts, I've found myself getting sucked into the whole thing and look forward to seeing the product of the trade you made with gironawatch as well as your street work.
Although, I do think your guide to not getting nicked is a bit clinical, for want of a better word. For me, doing a piece on the street without feeling safe in the knowledge that I may have just come up with the perfect plan not to get locked up for the night, kills the buzz a touch. Yeh, the last thing I want to happen is to have to explain to the misses where I've been all night, but finding the perfect spot, looking over my shoulder every minute or so with my ears to the ground while trying to graff some wall in shitty weather while remembering my way round the streets of a strange city in case I get a tap on the shoulder and have to reenact my 1600m school days is what it's all about. Trying to blag the police, isn't.
All said and done, I am looking forward to seeing the fruits of your labour
