Digital camera?, by donkeydaddy on Dec 5, 2006 19:11:27 GMT 1, Can anyone recommend a good, compact digital camera for around ยฃ200?
I have a Casio Exilim 4MP that's a few years old now and it doesn't really cut the mustard. I've just started taking photos of street art and would like to get some strong images to make a photo-montage to display on a lightbox. Looking for a camera that gives really good high-res images if poss.
Any help greatly appreciated

I've got a D70 SLR (out of your range and not compact) but I bought my wife a Nikon Coolpix, take a look at the Coolpix L5 and L6 (6 and 7 megapixel) or the older 7600 or 7900.
Checkout www.pricerunner.co.uk/ for lowdown on where to buy, I ended up buying my wifes camera from a website in France!

Also check out www.dpreview.com for camera reviews and advice etc.
Sorry for not replying sooner!

Digital camera?, by gm on Dec 10, 2006 1:03:40 GMT 1, I'm looking for a cheap and cheerful camera that takes decent gig photos, sometimes from far back. Used to have a Mavica - yes, the one with 0.3megapixels and a floppy disc drive. It took the best gig pics EVER. Then it died. Now I've got a 2 mega camera phone, and a 6 mega compact point n shoot thingy, and they're both CRAP.
Can anyone recommend something for ยฃ200 or less that's actually gonna work for what I want it to?
Or do I need to go back to film and wait 24 hours before finding out if any of the pics have come out at all?

Digital camera?, by ajuk on Dec 22, 2006 10:54:46 GMT 1, Most digital compacts have more resolution than the the lens can put onto the sensor, the sensors are tiny they just cram more pixels onto them in order to get you to buy them, anything over about 3-4 MP in a compact is pointless and just causes more noise. There are digital P&S camera that can produce better results than your camera but don't expect very much.
GM, youll find that with film you will be less likely to get blown out highlights but whether you really need to use film for gigs is another matter, if you know what you are doing you should know whether or not your pictures are going to turn out.
