Sardinia - Street Murals, by johnas on Feb 21, 2007 13:39:57 GMT 1, Thought I'd share these pics I took in 2004 in a place called Orgosolo in Sardinia. Basically, the town of Orgosolo is known as the bandit capital of the island, with many murders due to bloody vendettas at the beginning of the 20th century.
Here's a small selection of some of the murals that cover whole houses and shop fronts in the town. Not quite Graff in the modern sense of the word but many of these images date back to the early 60's and have a political element, graphically illustrating themes of exploitation or demanding Sardinian independence. The one's from the 60's protest against Vietnam yet some of the more recent ones from the early ninties, recall the famine in Somalia.
Sorry for the history lesson but hey, it might of interest to someone - it was me ;D
