Still seeing if there is an exacto styled knife that is the best for cutting as I had to apply a lot of pressure to get the cut through the paper! Guess over time will know what works best

Show us Your own Artwork π¨, by jonb on Aug 7, 2014 4:46:44 GMT 1, The above is and old video taken on a phone from the last time I set out my garden. It is all built from old tin cans, and other stuff I found thrown away, and is only part of the full thing which depending on how it is laid out covers about 100-200 sq foot.
I had no spare cash at the time of making it, so it was the only way I could think up of being able to create. The whole thing now sits in boxes, but I would like at some future date when I am a bit more mobile to install it on a derelict site somewhere.

Show us Your own Artwork π¨, by jonb on Aug 7, 2014 17:00:42 GMT 1, I would love to set it up in a street style environment rather than any gallery, but thanks for the compliment. I used to make exhibition stands, so depending on where it was going to be set up, I could design it so that it would only take two people a couple of hours at most to erect it. It could be designed to hang from a wall or even a ceiling. With a few timers, or proximity switches depending on where it is placed a car battery should be able to run all the moving insects, fish, animals and other moving parts for about a month. Anyway that is my dream.

I tried epoxy resin and really didn't work out for me and ended up being pretty expensive! Maybe I used the wrong one but it had a really strong smell to it also! Looks great and love the Charlie Brown!

Show us Your own Artwork π¨, by Drymounted on Aug 12, 2014 18:55:00 GMT 1, @get up gallery I tried epoxy resin and really didn't work out for me and ended up being pretty expensive! Maybe I used the wrong one but it had a really strong smell to it also! Looks great and love the Charlie Brown! It's been a LOT of trial and error with Epoxy. My ultimate recommendation:
www.amazon.co.uk/Envirotex-Lite-Pour-On-Sealing-Bottlecaps/dp/B005E2OU5U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1407863658&sr=8-1&keywords=envirotex+lite
The smell isn't that harsh compared to others. Yes, it's not something to do in a small confined area, but some open windows and a fan is your friend.
Tips: 1. Elevate the piece on a level surface. 2 bricks on a flat surface works. This allows the epoxy to self level, and the bricks to lift the piece off the floor. Elevation allows the drips not to stick to the floor.
2. Decide whether or not you want to coat the edges, or tape off. If you coat, be sure to spread immediately, and to go over the drips every 12-20 minutes to make sure no beads form. If you tape, have a belt sander ready to take the sharp edges off, and to add a nice bevel.
3. A nice light that can illuminate the piece brightly. You're going to need to crawl 360 degrees around the piece, looking at the surface from different levels. Make sure there are no spots lacking epoxy.
4. Get yourself a nice torch. Bubbles form in epoxy, and while some recommend a heat gun or hairdryer, nothing takes the place of a nice flame. www.amazon.co.uk/Kitchen-Craft-Master-Deluxe-Blowtorch/dp/B001NWRVEM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1407863953&sr=8-3&keywords=creme+brulee+torch
5. A tarp or plastic beneath the piece. Make sure there are no holes! If epoxh gets on your floor, consider it permanent.
6. Make sure the edges of your floor covering are anchored down. On one occasion, I was drying around 10 pieces, and when I left, the AC came on and blew the plastic tarp up, and on top of the pieces. Needless to say, I needed to re-coat everything.
7. Make sure the 2 part mix is mixed for AT LEAST 2 minutes. I aim for 3. If the 2 part mix isn't blended correctly, you will end up with a surface that is forever sticky.
8. Make sure you're not coating in an area with a lot of dust. Just know that whatever is in the air, will end up forever inside of the epoxy.
9. Allow at least 24 hours for proper dry time. Some boxes say 12, but I'd go with 24 to be safe.
10. Use proper safety gear. Safety goggles or glasses and a proper mask. This stuff is toxic, and if you accidentally have a piece fling up and hit your eye, it's NOT pleasant. For gloves, I recommend just some disposable latex. Epoxy on the hands is not only sticky for a day r two, but it can cause some people to break out.
11. To spread the epoxy, I recommend disposable popsicle sticks, or a sponge brush. DO not use anything with bristles, as they tend to come off, and become embedded in your surface. -------------------
Thanks for the kind words Wiz and Sohoria! If anyone is interested, I have a lot more mashups on my instagram page: snipt
Cheers!
