Anything but Paypal, by ABC on May 22, 2007 20:23:36 GMT 1, I use it all of the time even though I lost ยฃ800 to them 3 years ago, not too much choice when ebaying. I sold a laptop (ยฃ800) got paid through paypal, sent it, 3 days later (After laptop was signed for - abroad) Paypal reversed the payment. Then had the cheek to say I was in the red by ยฃ800 and I had a couple of days to pay it back or they would start legal action against me. I went to the Police Internet fraud team as I had been paid by dodgy credit card and all I got was... Well paypal, we've had thousands of complaints and basically tough shit. Lessons learnt, never send anything anywhere other than a confirmed address, you are covered then. I sent to an unconfirmed address and lost out.

Anything but Paypal, by Octopus UK on May 22, 2007 20:38:11 GMT 1, I bought some art for ยฃ900 from a gallery in France. It arrived damaged. The gallery messed me around enough so that when I came to complain to ebay/paypal I was outside their magic 45 day limit for disputes. Hate ebay and hate paypal - would love to see some real competition for them and then they might smarten up their act.

Anything but Paypal, by jam on May 22, 2007 20:38:58 GMT 1, Paypal will take your money whenever they like. There are no regulations in place to stop them from taking it from your credit cards or bank. They also like to freeze your account for "suspicious activity". This means you took a payment from someone when you normally use the account to pay for items. It happened to me when I started using them again after the first fiasco I had 3 years ago.
1st time: I sold a Porsche on ebay to a lady who paid me the deposit of $5000 US through paypal... paid the remaining 43k with a cashiers check. I shipped the car to her, she left positive feedback and said she loved the car. 5 months later she reversed the charge on her Visa card which came back through Paypal. They didn't ask a question of me, just took the 5k from my bank account! When I disputed the action with PayPal, they did a cloak and dagger investigation and said sorry, she likes the car and all but there is nothing we can do since the funds were disputed from the CC company. Our seller protection will not cover this. So... paypal screwed me out of 5k.
2nd time: Signed back up with paypal.... like a fool. I bought a few things with it, everything was fine. Then, I sold a bicycle, they decided to freeze me up for "suspicious activity". I then was asked for my social security number, utility bill, bank statement, copy of photo ID, permission to do a credit check, or they wouldn't release the 2500 to my account! (not to keen on giving anyone all that info by email and fax) On-top of all this, they wanted a tracking number for the bike that said it was delivered to the guy that bought it, even though I had no money for it! I called and was jerked around for 1.5 hrs and ended up being told if I sent the tracking number, and all the other info, there was still no guarantee I would get paid. Unbelievable! Paypal SUCKS.

Anything but Paypal, by RBK on May 22, 2007 21:53:19 GMT 1, I also use paypal frequently but have some similar horror stories. I've had my account frozen and put in the red for 2 transactions because they were 'large' and seemed 'suspicious' - even though they were legit and neither I nor the seller had reported anything wrong at any point throughout the transaction.
Paypal freezes your money, oftentimes puts your balance into the negative, and collect interest on your funds regardless. Their resolution department is horrible, and it is a infuriating experience filling out all the ridiculous documentation they require to get your account back in order.
Sad thing is there aren't many good alternatives. And I have even mentioned the high fees they take (for the few that don't know Ebay owns Paypal) so they are double dipping also.

Anything but Paypal, by beejoir1 on May 23, 2007 4:59:05 GMT 1, So, what's the main issues with Paypal? I always liked using them myself, but would like to know if its not a good idea... :/
I had a good start to the year and took quite a few payments, on ebay items and private transactions, with no bad feed back and 100% happy buyers.
Then out of the blue paypal suspended my account for abnormal activity, so I jumped through all their hoops, and provided all the information they needed, accounts and invoices, they released my account...... for a week, I took one ore payment, and they suspended it again with 1200 quid in, 5 months on and I'm still waiting to get it back!
