DFace "Going Nowhere Fast" Corey Helford, 9th Apr, by wizzy on Apr 10, 2011 9:43:11 GMT 1, It looks beautfully produced, but it's all very derivative isn't it? Borrowing heavily from Hirst, Haring, Lichtenstein, Richard Prince, Ron English, Banksy....I'm sure D*Face is a very nice guy but the show title kind of sums it up for me.
Isnt that what DFace does though TS?, he borrows from Artists the Defaces them?. Personally i prefer the OContemporary work from D and i reckon Cept does the Superhero stuff better but what do i know?, nothing.

Most art is derivative to a degree.
Even what you've just written has been written before about dface. Didn't stop you writing it.
This is just dfaces take on things and his style has always been in your face. You either like it or don't I suppose.

Is tax not usually added to the price ? I guess this is a way to make yourself a extra 10%, or am I being cynical ?

no, this is how things work in states.. you dont pay the tax with online sales cause stuff is usually going out of the state that its being sold in, but if you buy things at art shows, conventions, you pay tax on top of it.. learned it the hard way when I had a friend picking up things for me..

Thanks for that. So if I came over to a show, picked up some art then jumped on a plane home... am I likely to get charged tax twice ?

Sales tax is on goods and services and is set by each of the fifty states, and state entities (such as cities and counties), not by the U.S. government. Each state and state entity determines what the sales tax will be (always a percent of the purchase price) and what items will and will not be assessed a sales tax.
Sales tax is not the same as value-added tax (VAT). The state sales tax is a small tax on purchases or services, calculated at the time of purchase, which individual states assess and which the U.S. Federal government neither determines nor receives. The VAT, on the other hand, is a national tax commonly applied in foreign countries that is included in the actual sales price rather than at the time of purchase. The United States does not have a VAT, and the Federal government cannot refund state sales taxes.
So basically yeah you would pay the tax twice lol

DFace "Going Nowhere Fast" Corey Helford, 9th Apr, by jonvespa on Apr 10, 2011 14:36:41 GMT 1, the knives were sold as a "chandelier", it was $25k for the entire thing.
not really THAT bad, as you are getting 50 or so little D originals, haha
picked up a print and a book. show looked amazing.
i got their early for a little VIP viewing. what was the freebie?
oh, and they wouldn't sell any prints until 7:30pm (doors), which made it quite fair to everyone (not just VIP who got the 6:00-7:30 viewing). Thought that was a nice touch.
anyone hit martha cooper remix show? carmichael's best in my opinion...got a martha and a lister there....
wallet feels very light today.
