Roger Waters / Pink Floyd The Wall & Gerald Scarfe, by gibbin82 on May 8, 2011 22:12:50 GMT 1, I am really looking forward to next Saturday as I have some choice tickets to see Roger Waters The Wall at the O2. By all accounts the original production back in 1980 was amazing, but with the advances in lighting and projection techniques since it was first performed it should now be pretty incredible, see the video clips below for a taster (especially the Comfortably Numb clip 5 mins 54 sec in ;)0 Also apologies for the crap sound, but have a listen to the clips on You-Tube from Chicago they are unbearable , I cant believe that people can go and see this show and scream and holla all the way through it, can't they see the irony in the fact that The Wall was part conceived through the alienation Roger Waters felt with the audiences due to them screaming and shouting and not listening to the music
I have posted here though to discuss the animation work done by Gerald Scarfe and wondered what forum members thought of his work and where it fits in the the art world, as it very political. And does anyone have any of his prints? I know he churns them out regularly but never see any mention of them here
Also is anyone else going to any of the UK shows, been to the American or Canadian shows or even went to any of the original ones?

If you go to his web site he will do a print of any of his work on there or you have seen elsewhere most of them are around £200

Roger Waters / Pink Floyd The Wall & Gerald Scarfe, by Hubble Bubble on May 9, 2011 12:31:57 GMT 1, I'm going on Thursday night. Can't wait. In 1980 me and three mates took time off school and I drove down from Blackpool in my (first) car to Earls Court to watch the first UK performance of The Wall. I remember seeing the gig advertised in NME and I sent off for the tickets by postal order. A week or so later I got my tickets... five rows from the front !
What an amazing concert it was.
And so, thirty one years later, I'll see it again (with two of the guys from the first trip, too!).
Saw Rog do Dark Side of the Moon a couple of times two years ago and the gig at Birmingham NIA was one of the best I've ever been to.
It's going to be epic.
Especially from the VIP box ;D

Hi Coach there are lots of beautiful and sad Pink Floyd songs give em a chance and I am sure you would find quite a few more you would like (like a lot of the best things in life it takes a bit of time to appreciate)

Saw them back in the day on the Animals tour 1977, again (minus Waters) at the Knebworth Silver Clef bash in 1990 and the brief reunion at the Live Earth concert 2008 each time they IMO were brilliant and unforgettable, also saw Roger Waters on the (solo) Dark Side of the Moon tour at Hyde Park 2006 and NIA Birmingham 2007, really looking forward to this, I think there is still the odd reasonable priced tickets about you should get one Fingerz it is going to be incredible.

You will have to let us know what you thought of the show
I am in the thirteenth row for this show and starting to think I might be too close such is the size of the wall
I am hoping that Saturday is the night that David Gilmour appears, apparently he has agreed to play one show at the O2.
Anyway back to the other part of my original post what do the folk on here think of Gerald Scarfes work?

Roger Waters / Pink Floyd The Wall & Gerald Scarfe, by Deleted on May 9, 2011 14:01:23 GMT 1, Watched Pulse live show on DVD yesterday with 4 y.o & 2 y.o kids... It was fun, lot of smoke, light effects and great music.
Only thing I can say is that it is very cheap compare to a signed print by Storm Thogerson www.stormthorgerson-art.com/Pink%20Floyd%20Covers%20by%20Storm%20Thorgerson.html
in gallery SCREAM is the best IMO

Roger Waters / Pink Floyd The Wall & Gerald Scarfe, by Hubble Bubble on May 10, 2011 11:57:29 GMT 1, I can't imagine that DG will play with RW... he has ignored all attempts at RW's rapprochement since Rog softened his Pink Floyd stance post Live8. Now Rick Wright has died (and let's not forget that - allegedly - RW hounded Wright out of the Floyd at the time of recording The Wall) , I suspect it's all over for any kind of Floyd reunion. Could be wrong though.

Was that the full PF line up chyren? RW, RW, DG, NM ? Or had Waters left by then? I get confused with dates

Roger Waters was well gone by 94, it was the final Pink Floyd tour the same as featured on the Pulse DVD.

There has been quite a cooling of hostilities between Gilmour and Waters recently and they appeared together at a charity event last year (see you tube clip below). David Gilmour has also agreed to play on one of the Wall shows at the O2, I really hope it is the one on Saturday

Roger Waters / Pink Floyd The Wall & Gerald Scarfe, by Hubble Bubble on May 13, 2011 11:38:47 GMT 1, Mornin' all. I'm back from last night's show. Wow !!! Fantastic. You're in for a great night.
Not sure it tops Dark Side of The Moon by Waters but to be honest it's a different kind of gig... The Wall is pure Theatre, a rock opera - call it what you will. Sit back and enjoy the show.
Oh, by the way, did I tell you that a certain David Gilmour appeared on top of the wall for Comfortably Numb ))
And on stage at the end with Roger for a sign off and hug...
Oh... did I also tell you that Nick Mason appeared too and that the three of them were on stage together playing out the final sequence of The Wall:)
Seriously... to anyone with tickets... have a great time.
To anyone without tickets... sell something from your wall and buy one.

Saw it on Breakfast television as a news item, was really hoping it would have been Saturday, but I am sure it will be amazing who ever plays the Comfortably Numb solo

Hope you have a fantastic time. Report back!
I have tried to upload a few clips. They are shaky and wobbly due to the excitement but bear with them.

Roger Waters / Pink Floyd The Wall & Gerald Scarfe, by gibbin82 on May 15, 2011 17:10:21 GMT 1, Went to the O2 last night to see the wall and to use an old cliche "I was blown away", it was amazing!. The lighting, the animation and projection, special effects and sound were a huge leap forward from anything I have ever seen before and I have seen lots. A couple of things I noticed that shows how much detail had been put in and the incredible technology on show were: as each brick was placed on the wall shortly after it had been placed it lit up, as it became part of the evolving screen, there was no over spill of the image and it appeared as though every brick must have had its own projector to form a massive mosaic, there was also no spill over of the projected image anywhere even onto Roger Waters as he performed in front of the wall (see the youtube videos). Even when the wall was complete you could see through the cracks between the bricks and from the lights hung from the ceiling, that the light show continued behind the wall even though the audience couldn't see it! Also the show was so moving it managed to reduce my misses to tears, at one point during 'Bring the Boys back Home' they shown some video on the wall of some little girls at school who were taken by surprise as their fathers came back from war (Iraq or Afghanistan) one of the little girls was so overcome she burst into tears as did my partner. The only disappointment I have is I am not going again tonight, although I have already had a look at getting some more tickets for another show . Although I decided not to take any photos or videos and just enjoy the spectacle I couldn't resist taking a crappy video on my iPhone, cant wait for the DVD to be produced but for now have a look at my YouTube clip below ;D

If I were to have requested 3mins.35 seconds of Floyd footage from the concert this weekend, the second half of Comfortably Numb would have been my choice. Thank you again.Looked F'ing brilliant!

Seriously - glad you enjoyed it. It's still living with me several days later. Am mulling over whether to go and see it again.

Anybody who is in the area or doesn't mind traveling a little and would also like to see this fantastic show checkout www.ticketmaster.co.uk right now as they have some brilliant tickets available for tonight 20th May (front floor) Block B Row N or tomorrow 21st May (front floor) Block B Row P. You cant get much better than these at 13 and 15 rows from the front, without being in danger of the wall falling on you
