If youโve visited East London in the last ten years youโll have doubtless seen the huge mysterious stick figures lurking on the sides of buildings and billboard. Deceptively simple in form, just six lines each and dots for eyes, they are packed with subtle form and emotion. They are the work of street artist Stik who, having spent many years homeless and working on the streets, knows the city from the inside and manages to reach seemingly superhuman locations to paint these highly stylized pieces.
These days Stik exhibits in the West-End, liaises at Central Saint Martinโs โGraffiti Dialoguesโ with Police and Councils and is funded to run graffiti workshops by councils and schools whilst working with groups as diverse as Amnesty International, Reclaim the streets, Queeruption, Mutoid Waste Company and British Waterways yet still regularly paints unauthorised pieces around the capital, marking Stik out as a key component of both underground and mainstream art scenes.
Stikโs latest solo show at the Subway Gallery features an exciting Live Graffiti event, an installation comprised of four large light-boxes and hosts the long awaited launch of the new high quality print edition โSingle Mumโ produced by Squarity. As always there will be smaller, affordable pieces on sale too at this free show which is set to be a vibrant and fascinating event for all.

Squarity aim is a high standard and unique feel to every print we release. Every release we work with STIK on, we try to give people a chance to own a piece of art that truely reflects STIK's street work.
There will be an online release (in the PM, the same night as the show) of the edition and some of these rarer proofs will be available on a first come first serve basis! they will be more expensive (as there are only 2-3 of each!) The edition will also be on sale at the show! there is some very nice pieces indeed!

A few reasons for this choice, STIK has been using yellow alot in his street work of late. We want collectors/fans to have the chance to own a variety of coloured works, it would be very dull to use the same colour pallet for each release. The 'classic' STIK colour is orangey/red (Diva), the main reason proofs where made is to see how the characters personalities change with each 'AURA' and it is suprising how some colours give you different impressions.
"YELLOW AURA COLOUR" Relates to the spleen and life energy. It is the color of awakening, inspiration, intelligence and action shared, creative, playful, optimistic & easy-going.

There will be some very small proof editions for sale also: brown edition of 3, natural edition of 3, orange edition of 3. these will be ยฃ150 each and its first come first served.
Also at the show tonight, there will be some one off colours : grey, pink, red.... prices tba.
