Silky to be the new Banksy?, by elo on Jan 25, 2011 11:47:29 GMT 1, No offense Silky but please stick to the day job. I see another forum is dissing this artform/street/urban and this is exactly the reasons why. Like above comment, produce some work and lets see it. No beef we are all here to create and enjoy art and you can too. Its not surprising that a great deal of true art lovers see our artform as 'mickey mouse art', where I feel it should be respected more at least for the true artists trying to take it forward. Excuse my seriousness and lack of humor on this grey morning. Peace..

Silky to be the new Banksy?, by spirit on Jan 25, 2011 11:55:03 GMT 1, Does seem a bit creepy that you're talking about affordable canvases and deals for the first buyers when no ones seen your art, and nothings been created yet. Would have been nice to see some art first, built up a nice collection and got some feed back instead of jumping in with sell sell sell, or did I get the wrong end of the stick?
this.

Silky to be the new Banksy?, by saint on Jan 25, 2011 11:55:31 GMT 1, just sticking up for dan here, he didnt start this thread, and he hasn't posted anywhere that he's gonna be making art, he's just rolled with whats been posted. Anyone who enjoys art and feels they have something to say or to paint should be allowed to freely express themselves. Anyone who feels the need to insult, rip, or diss someone because they want to try and express themselves through art is a moron, and not worth the time of day in my humble opinion.
If more people expressed themselves through art in its many guises the world would be a happier place. I look forward to seeing what is produced, good luck to you Dan.

Silky to be the new Banksy?, by Deleted on Jan 25, 2011 12:02:52 GMT 1, it seems like a natural progression. Only concerns I would have, being an artist who's works will be subject to criticism as well as praise - will there not be a conflict of interest, as you will have absolute power over those who may critique your work, and if you dont like the comments, then you can either delete their comments or remove them from your site, or both?
Also I would suspect with these concerns lingering in some peoples minds, then you may not get an honest reaction to your works.

Silky to be the new Banksy?, by saint on Jan 25, 2011 15:53:49 GMT 1, No i dont think so, and i dont think i'm naive at all. It is my opinion that if more people practiced art (in all its forms, not just this genre, and not just painting), then the world would be a happier place... Am i naive to think such a thing? I think not, i think its proven that people with antisocial behaviour problems react well to art classes, dance classes, and singing classes. Its been proven that taking kids from problem areas and putting them through classes where they learn to express themselves properly, rather than through violence, has a dramatic impact on their lives.
Aside from this, i truly believe that art is for the masses. If you have an idea you should try to run with it. There is nothing better than seeing an idea of your own come to life, be it on paper, canvas, the street, or by song, music, dance, writing etc. Not everyone CAN be an artist, but that doesn't mean you shouldnt TRY.
Again, all my own opinion, if you disagree thats yours, so fair play. ;D

Silky to be the new Banksy?, by artylang on Jan 25, 2011 18:27:46 GMT 1, No, I think people who make art are great. I should have edited down what I selected to quote from you. I think it is naive to believe this just happened to pop up. I have a hard time believing art-el or whoever, did this by surprise.
Just strikes me as odd. You know? Guy deliberately makes the forum more difficult to navigate to increase traffic and revenue. Just doesn't leave a good taste in my mouth. Add to that all the other grievances mentioned by others above. But hey, buy what you like. I Love most of the community and have made some great friends through it.

Pretty sure Art-el was actually trying to take the piss by posting this, and you'll notice then got angry when they thought Silky had deleted it. There's "history" there... certainly not a conspiracy to help anyone! LOL

Silky to be the new Banksy?, by des77 on Jan 25, 2011 19:54:22 GMT 1, IMO its kinda disrespectful to the artists who struggle to make a living while doing something they love. I also think that presuming your art is worth selling is a little egotistical too, yes enjoy being creative but don't tarnish everything with money.

Silky to be the new Banksy?, by Deleted on Jan 25, 2011 20:01:39 GMT 1, thats the point though silky - it would appear to me that you are already putting in place the caveats to remove or distort others honest opinions, as you think anyone who has a negative opinion about you, has an axe to grind. It is likw saying, if you (members), like this forum you have to like me (silky), then extending it a little further, by saying if you like this forum, then you have to like my art. You have to separate the issues, and not take the feedback, positive or negative personally.

To be fair I don't think the main issue is people with axes to grind - it is people raise the valid point that it's a bit odd (and off) to be talking about doing special deals for your first canvases whennoone has even seen your work.
I have been a member here for a while and have seen lots of wannabe artists come and go, and it always puts me out a bit when someone shows first effort and then tries to sell it.
Furthermore, in my time here i've never read anything aout you wanting to produce art, or even trying it.
I think you would have recieved less grief and more favourable comments by just posting a few images in a thread on here and just asked for people's opinions of them.
And it's not ust you that gets grief or selling art. I am not a keen fan of jboy's work and his posts here always used to annoy me when he would look for an argument but i think (in general) he's learnt to handle criticism and just goes on selling his prints.
Good luck with your art i look forward to seeing hat your style is.
And please don't start banning people who don't like your work.
