Mounting Options, by Standard on Jun 30, 2011 10:23:05 GMT 1, I normally go with float mounted (ex below), often offsetting the float on a smaller board behind museum/MG glass but am looking at options to frame 3 pieces that make a triptych. An option is to go with seperate frames like the floated piece which will enable me to move them around but i'm also looking at a single frame with a 3 hole mounting.
I have had things double mounted but nothing with an extra deep mount, does anyone have a good example of a deep mount?
Also how are these done? It looks like the mount has been square cut, i.e doesn't have the gradual sloping cut to them - is this possible or is it just the effect of the photos? It also looks like a second mount is under giving the highlight colour but not overlapping or is this just coloured core board?
I quite like the depth effect of the mount is straight cut?
I love the colour of this and the highlight of the mounting, is this overlapping, coloured core or a second mount?

Mounting Options, by curiousgeorge on Jun 30, 2011 10:32:28 GMT 1, Not sure what the exact question is, but take a look here and it might help you?
www.cowalframes.co.uk/picturemountstyles.htm
Donuts looks to big a single deep mount and CYW looks to be two mounts
Did you want two mounts with the first being hidden? This technique is best used on Pastel drawings as the hidden mount provides a tray for any pastel dust to fall behind (and be out of view)

Mounting Options, by balibob on Jun 30, 2011 10:32:39 GMT 1, The deep mount is usually achieved using 5mm foam cored mount card. The coloured highlight can be either a wooden insert painted to match the chosen colour or the aforementioned foam cored mount card painted on the outside edge.

Mounting Options, by Standard on Jun 30, 2011 10:50:12 GMT 1, cheers & thanks for the link
is precision cut just cut with a square finish .i.e. 90 degrees to the the profile or do all mounts have that sloping cut effect?
the double mount with the first one hidden sounds pretty good - they are drawings but i would love to see the effect of this - know of any pics?

Mounting Options, by curiousgeorge on Jun 30, 2011 11:17:30 GMT 1, Sloping = bevel = much more pleasing to the eye, helps draw the eye in and gives the art a nice base
Check your pm

Mounting Options, by sal on Jun 30, 2011 13:14:34 GMT 1, I have to agree with George on the sloping matter... I thing straight cut looks interesting cause its not that common, but I would definitely go with sloping...
as for the highlight of the mounting on CYW, Id say thats a colored core board.. they are pretty common, and not much more expensive as far as I know..
