Framing Prices - I feel like I am getting gouged., by Layaway Days Art Blog on Aug 1, 2011 9:10:34 GMT 1, Hi All,
I am wondering if members could provide a bit of perspective here. I have taken my first two prints into be framed but feel like I am paying way too much. I will try to be as detailed as possible but to be honest, I will probably fall short.
1st - TMA NYC - 36x32 I think. Had a white/silver frame with white matte (3-4 inches I think). Price = $475us
2nd - Cops and Robins (59cm x 79cm). Gold, rounded frame with (3x4 inch) black matte with very small pink matte underneath) - $437.
I think both will look great but this seems far too expensive. The woman has extremely positive reviews but am starting to wonder if I should take my business to a larger 'box store-esque' company such as 'Frame Central' in Seattle.
Any thoughts on all of this? I really like Nick Walker's Ratatouille but cannot see spending the likely $600-700 to get it framed.......
Thanks
R.

Framing Prices - I feel like I am getting gouged., by jusdeep on Aug 1, 2011 13:55:47 GMT 1, The Museum glass alone would cost that without the frame, mounts and framers costs. My old Ratatouille cost between £250-280, deep white box frame (2" around), UV glass to give you an idea of price. It could be that you've paid too much or just chosen a very expensive frame.

Framing Prices - I feel like I am getting gouged., by saint on Aug 1, 2011 14:03:33 GMT 1, Framing costs can vary hugely, i have taken things to framers who have quoted astronomical prices, and then had much more reasonable prices from others. For example, a Marc Quinn winter garden, i had quotes of £700 and £300, both to frame to conservation standards and both with museum quality glass, both framed in white box frames, float mounted. My advice (whilst only my own view of course) is that its best to look around and get more than one quote when you start off framing stuff, but remember that in life it is often the case that you get what you pay for. In the end with my quinn i went for one at about the middle level, and i love the result. I always go to the same framer now as i know he does great work and the more i take him the lower my prices get! Once you have found a good framer there is hopefully no need to go elsewhere.
Another thing is always ask how they frame things, what materials they use etc. It is after all your print, and your frame, and you should know as much as possible. Again just my 2c bro.

Framing Prices - I feel like I am getting gouged., by HRE on Aug 1, 2011 21:15:26 GMT 1, Im a big fan of float mounting, much prefer to have them framed this way... If there is any sun damage on the image that get though the UV glass then it does evenly bleach.... Thinking positively here

He uses another piece of mount card which is placed over the back of the print then taped so it holds it in place, at no time does tape touch the print, it's a great way of doing it, I've had around 20 banksys done by him and when I've sold some the buyers are very impressed, hope I've explained it right:-)

Is this Ray the glass salesman who bought a morso? Is he close to D&J Simons and Sons?
