BE AFRAID...... BE VERY AFRAID!!, by verbalkint on May 26, 2007 1:11:55 GMT 1, The plum who listed the christ with shopping bags has also listed one of the soupcan signed editions of 10. Now i doubt that any of the regulars here are idiotic enough to believe that these prints exist, but for anyone who is tempted to bid on these let me strongly advise you against it. Imagine that you are the owner of these prints, you decide that you need the money more than the prints and/or are paranoid that they might get destroyed in a house fire or flood, so you put them on ebay. Would you.......
1) list the items with no photos of the signitures, the prints themselves or the provenance.
2) not even mention the provenance that you have for the item
3) Include as much information as possible, like where you got them from, the enjoyment you have had, any other amusing anicdote related to the prints which ALWAYS boosts your sales
4) list them for only 3 days? these are at least ยฃ20k worth of prints combined! if you list them for 10 days a lot more people will see them, and the more that see them, the more chance there is of 2 of them bidding high to push the price up
Now i do believe it is possible for someone to include little information (they wouldnt a 2nd time after getting a thousand questions, better to answer in advance!), it may even be possible that someone is too damn lazy to take pictures, or maybe they are techno phobes and dont have a digital camera, I find it hard to believe that anyone would only list for 3 days, but i suppose you could argue that they are in dire need of money very quickly.
But is it possible for all of these things to be true, i just cannot see it myself. Anyone with 2 prints like these will want to maximise the amount they get, they wouldnt list items in this manner.
what does everyone else think

BE AFRAID...... BE VERY AFRAID!!, by ABC on May 26, 2007 3:35:56 GMT 1, I think you have hit the nail on the head but........Offer cash on collection if you was serious in bidder. No one, regardless if you was too busy to meet would turn it down as arrangements can be made at convenient time to both. This way you can see the print before handing over the cash. If the seller declines then you have to suspect something may be wrong and they are trying to cover that up.

BE AFRAID...... BE VERY AFRAID!!, by curiousgeorge on May 26, 2007 10:50:49 GMT 1, Agreed, if in doubt offer cash on collection. That soon sorts the wheat from the chaff
Edit to say obviously giving the seller the chance of COC, would in some way enable one to determine if the seller is genuine or not

BE AFRAID...... BE VERY AFRAID!!, by Mobu on May 26, 2007 11:10:49 GMT 1, Yeah hope he doesn't show up with his Boyz and rob you blind!!!
I would arrange to meet in a bank or something where there are lot of security cameras around. It is also good for him so he can pay the money straight in coz I doubt he wants to be walking around with loads of cash! If he does, rob his ass blind!!!!
Only joking to the last part of course.

tell you what, that's pretty concise for 1 am verbal
spot on and spot on again. good work for posting the explanations to each theory, if just one new member decided against bidding because of it then even better.
i say new member because i do hope no-one clued up was toying with it?
