BANKSY - Southampton, NY 2011, by freshpaintnyc on Aug 28, 2011 1:21:24 GMT 1, Honestly I was a bit confused about the show myself... If someone can explain to me what BANKROBBER is, I will probably have a better understanding. By looking it up, BANKROBBER is a gallery in London that funded the effort to go remove (steal) these works from their original locations.
Whether Banksy was involved, I have no idea how that stuff works and am not the type to ask people at an opening that I don't know.
Outside sources are now telling me, Banksy had nothing to do with the show, all the prints that are going for $14,000+ were orginally bought at auction and being resold.
Not sure the prices of the slabs of wall, but i'm sure $100,000+
The show is by the Keszler Gallery and they chose an old raw space power plant building to do the event.
It was great to see the original pieces in person that I woulda had to travel to Israel to see as well as original prints from 2003-04 etc...
Thanks all I got by observation... didn't care to talk to anyone... managed to grab some giveaways though... doubt they are of any value if Banksy wasn't actually involved...

BANKSY - Southampton, NY 2011, by des77 on Aug 28, 2011 1:49:48 GMT 1, Its a 100% non official show. Im not sure how much they would sell, id presume buyers would have done research first... so its more like a traveling freak show. It couldnt have been cheap moving all those pieces

BANKSY - Southampton, NY 2011, by Cedric Mnich on Aug 28, 2011 11:53:47 GMT 1, pieces out of urban concept losing all their meaning (especially the Israel one). Greed at work. Pieces which will go in another millionaire collector's mansion to show off at fine parties with friends. It misses Banksy's soul and sense of humour imho. Unsavory as a cold piece of pizza.

Does anyone know where that kissing coppers piece came from? (wondering if it was the one removed from Brighton)

BANKSY - Southampton, NY 2011, by freshpaintnyc on Aug 29, 2011 3:42:50 GMT 1, There's a video of the process of removing the pieces...
My big question is... for Keszler to produce an unofficial show and steal work to be sold... can Banksy legally do anything about it? Obvioussly there's the reasoning that the work was painted illegally to begin with and no one really owns it except the property owner, but for the big time artist he is... most artists of his status have their work legally protected...
I'm assuming he could care less and is onto some beyond the nonsense... is he gonna show up to fight someone... I doubt it...
Not sure if many of you know about the graffiti artist UFO... paints the UFO's all over Brooklyn... An obsessed fan actually published a book based on photographing all of the work UFO has painted in the streets... without the actual artist's consent... not that there was any big money involved or hardly any, it was an unprofessional move on the photographers part. long story short... UFO actually showed up at the book release party and had some words... Not sure what the settlement was, my friend is the one who witnessed it...

If on public property when taking the pictures, then the photographer retains copyright on those pictures (to my knowledge)

BANKSY - Southampton, NY 2011, by des77 on Aug 30, 2011 16:40:36 GMT 1, Yes Curious is correct, that is how people get away with selling the 'Banksy' canvas's on pretty much every market up and down the country.
