I have this Banksy mermaid stencil from Faile in 2004. It's on a white painted plywood board measuring about 100cm x 80cm, and the image itself is about 70cm x 50cm.
It isn't exactly signed, but on the back in Banksy's writing is "Faile 2004 London xx".
Anyone have any idea what this might be worth?
I'm reluctant to sell, but hard times mean I might have to, so any thoughts on the best way/place to sell it would be appreciated.
I also have a couple of Monkey Queen back door prints if anyone's interested.

Sorry I can't help with any of your questions but I'm eager to hear more about this piece and where you got it from. Also anyones thoughts on why Banksy would stencil someone else's work?!
If it wasn't for your long time membership I'd have instantly dismissed this as a strange fake!

Do you have any provenance (receipts etc.)
If not, it's probably worth 5p or up to £1k to a Faile collector who trusts you (not to suggest you're untrustworthy by any means - simply that I'm not sure whether people know you on here or not).

The piece was salvaged after the '04 Faile London show by a connected friend and given to me as a gift. So, no provenance, no receipts, just the stencil and 'signature' (pic attached). I'm as sure as I can be it's his writing for several reasons. It looks like it. Plus, people who know about these things have recognized it as such immediately and without prompting. Plus my connected friend is certain of it.
But who knows, maybe we're all wrong.
I've had it a long time, but I didn't know it wasn't Banksy's work. Although it always struck me as not his typical style, I must admit.
Whose work is it if not his? I've seen prints of the image advertised as by Banksy.
Certainly not a strange fake! A strange first post maybe, but I don't tend to say much unless I've got something worth saying! I'm always interested in what other people have to say though 
Thanks whoever posted the Bonhams tip, which now seems to have disappeared. I'll be emailing them asap.

POW sold the print of this, sold out a few years back.
Enjoy it for what it is.
