Banksy Speaks out on Graffitti Wars, by des77 on Sept 4, 2011 10:51:35 GMT 1, But, this whole thing is boring now.... Banksy had nothing to do with that show and is just looking for publicity for himself. Im losing respect for him by the day, I know his management expect a certain amount of media coverage each month... but this just smacks of desperation.

Don't believe everything you read in the papers, even though the news of the world is no more the inaccurate reporting of news and significant amounts of added bs continues

Banksy Speaks out on Graffitti Wars, by Warm Gun on Sept 4, 2011 12:13:11 GMT 1, I don't know anyone who thought that Banksy was the cause of/had anything to do with Robbo's injury after watching the show.

Banksy Speaks out on Graffitti Wars, by xmyart on Sept 4, 2011 12:34:52 GMT 1, Didnt necessarily believe it, but they did leave you wondering. Was it a fall, was it a kicking etc. They certainly failed to mention he fell down the stairs outside his house.

Banksy Speaks out on Graffitti Wars, by Warm Gun on Sept 4, 2011 12:50:47 GMT 1, Seems like Banksy is being a bit paranoid which is ironic going by his social commentary on paranoia (stop and search, all the CCTV pieces etc)

Banksy Speaks out on Graffitti Wars, by bigtlt on Sept 4, 2011 14:15:08 GMT 1, At least 5 of my friends who don't really follow the scene but caught the show, have all asked me if I knew what happened, because they got the impression he was attacked, possibly by friends of Banksy over the "paint war".
And must admit I thought the way the show ended was aimed to be controversial and leave that thought as a possibility.

Same scenario here.

Same here, and the fact that he got this together a day or two before the auction seems slightly insensitive, a legal challenge or not im sure a few days wouldnt of made much difference.

Banksy Speaks out on Graffitti Wars, by Cedric Mnich on Sept 5, 2011 9:12:56 GMT 1, That show was interesting and I am unsure it was really a hatred war, as there was some sort of mutual respect and fun / humor during the feud war... If I'm not mistaken, no Banksy piece was really defaced. Some Robbo team comments were tagged next to the piece, not directly on it and if so, not really definitely defacing the piece. It would have been easy to destroy completely some pieces. For example, the Hastings beach piece was tagged on perspex. It could have been destroyed by pouring paint behind the perspex... The TV show was uncomfortable to watch because it was obviously pro-Robbo and the end left a sour taste. One would expect a documentary to listen to both sides partisans. Robbo seemed more than happy to be exhibited at Pure Evil and having that moment of glory as a cinema "star". I really had the feeling too that the doc left wondering if Robbo was agressed by Banksy-ers. And the doc had several mistakes or inconsistancies : it is not obvious that the 1985 Robbo piece was really in a poor shape before Banksy painted over it. To this day, it is not clear what really happened to Robbo and I think this should be cleared or it will soon become an "urban legend". I read up there he fell in his stairs ?

Banksy Speaks out on Graffitti Wars, by Cedric Mnich on Sept 5, 2011 9:31:06 GMT 1, Seems Banksy will now be a media target after having been an icon...
"Although Banksy denies this, he went on to paint over Robbo tags all over London, tags which other graffiti writers had left alone due to Robbo’s prestige amongst their community. "
Didn't know other Robbo tags were painted over by Banksy. Is it true or just another journalist's invention ?

Banksy Speaks out on Graffitti Wars, by des77 on Sept 5, 2011 9:49:01 GMT 1, Not sure where you have been, but nearly every Banksy piece painted in the last 18 months was trashed by 'Team Robbo'. Id guess most of that is documented on here. Most of that wasn't wit either... they were simply trashed within days of going up

I'm not aware of any other Robbo pieces that were altered (or even still existed) other than the canal pieces which were changed several times by both artists.......

Banksy Speaks out on Graffitti Wars, by alexnh123 on Sept 5, 2011 17:55:32 GMT 1, Banksy salvaged that piece. It was dogged beyond belief. This is all so irritating. And who do you really think would win in a stand off between Banksy (or Banksy's mates) and Robbo? really?

Banksy Speaks out on Graffitti Wars, by Warm Gun on Sept 5, 2011 18:07:50 GMT 1, I'm not sure that spraying over robbo's piece salvaged it but it certainly gave it more limelight and fame that it would ever have had (or has had) in it's 20 year history. That is without doubt. I'd never even heard of Robbo until the feud (which was my bad I guess) but Banksy's alteration of his piece made it and him famous and cemented it in street art history where otherwise it would have faded away behind a thousand tags.....which can't be bad.
