Adam Neate on ebay reaches ยฃ3000, by la on Jul 13, 2007 22:40:11 GMT 1, Brilliant piece. I think well worth much more IMHO.
Neate has a show in 3 weeks and his work is still undiscovered by lots of people.
He is half Picasso half Bacon style wise. Very unique and instantly recognisable.
He will also demand much higher prices in the coming year or so.
Your opinion on this is appreciated

Adam Neate on ebay reaches ยฃ3000, by RBK on Jul 13, 2007 23:16:09 GMT 1, I think that piece is sub-par if you want my honest opinion.
If you are spending that kind of money I would say you are better off getting one of the Elms prints edition of 75.

Adam Neate on ebay reaches ยฃ3000, by sausageboonwee on Jul 13, 2007 23:24:16 GMT 1, I don't think you'd go far wrong with either. Brilliant prints but there is something very special about owning something created by the artists hand rather than mechanically. The one on ebay is stronger than most that have gone through ebay recently. I really like it.
Win/Win really.

Adam Neate on ebay reaches ยฃ3000, by rob123rob on Jul 14, 2007 0:09:44 GMT 1, As far as Neate is concerned, I love his work, but wondering why do people think that his prints are generally selling for more than his original works? Is it just because of provenance on the street pieces being tricky?

To answer your question - Yes.
Perfect example is that work on cardboard that went for over 3K a few weeks ago. It was on carboard, similar size to the street pieces - but because it was exhibited in a gallery show it commanded more of a premium than something just left in the street (that at the time of writing this have been selling for 500-1500 GBP)

With regards to the piece that sold for ยฃ3250 few weeks ago, it was a much bigger size than the one just sold. It was 60x60 cm which is more or less half the size of his current gallery pieces. It also had a stronger image, Neate's trade mark head. So really it was the bargain of the century at ยฃ3250. The rumours are that his next show will demand ยฃ20000 +vat for each piece. The one just sold on ebay for ยฃ3800 will look cheap after the show

Adam Neate on ebay reaches ยฃ3000, by sausageboonwee on Jul 14, 2007 17:51:49 GMT 1, But what about street pieces that are featured on his website. Surely that could only be considered as concrete provenance? What are they worth? Surely it's these that made Adam's name and are a key part of who he is as an artist.

They will one day demand much higher prices, but the gallery work is always more valuable because of the size, condition and time he has spent doing them. A good frame always help

Yeah I wonder if he is going to be making a further statement on art as a commodity by taking down his archive (cough - provenance).
Not sure about you all, but I can't wait to see work from the upcoming Elms show!

Adam Neate on ebay reaches ยฃ3000, by Winter on Jul 15, 2007 9:55:02 GMT 1, It would be an absolute disaster for Adam to take his archive off his site. Many of those works ended up being destroyed and many didn't make it on to the archive. Without that work he wouldn't be where he is today. If it ends up being used as provenance and you are looking to buy a piece of this art then that could prevent you from being ripped off. Is that not a positive thing? His show will be very good.

Evening all.
I'd never noticed this sentence on his site.
'All work on the site has been left in the streets for a reason'
Maybe there is a message in there somewhere, maybe not.

I shouldn't of thought its very high on his list at the moment. A young family together with the shows ahead are enough to keep anyone busy.

Adam Neate on ebay reaches ยฃ3000, by peggysue on Jul 16, 2007 20:17:52 GMT 1, It seems like Neate prices are climbing again. This is probably due to the upcoming show. Probably our last chance to pick up a print at a reasonable price. What do you reckon original Elms pieces will be going for?
