Forming a Registry, by RBK on Sept 13, 2006 3:46:58 GMT 1, Have we made any progress with this??? I believe it is still a good idea - albeit it will neverbe able to serve as an official authenticator.
I do agree that it will serve as a good supplement - Banksy's popularity is about to grow internationally and as more prints will turn up on ebay. Regardless of the how many fake prints have actually made their way to ebay; a registry will serve as just another additional resource in attempting to determine validity.
Lastly, have any of the more Senior members/POW staff discussed possible solutions?

Forming a Registry, by beejoir1 on Sept 15, 2006 6:52:38 GMT 1, The thing is... POW are a screen printing house, they sell the prints, but I dont know if Id class them so much as an art dealership, it would be a hell load of stress and also legal issues if they started a registry, they would be some trouble if they got a name wrong on a print and someone just forked out 5000 quid on it! They have all of the original names, but keeping track of 2nd 3rd 4th hand ownership is impossible!

Forming a Registry, by mido on Sept 15, 2006 15:39:30 GMT 1, totally agree. with only 3 staff (plus1 finance I think) they do a marvellous job!! With so few staff, even to keep everything running smoothly must be pretty hard, let alone taking on other things that will not help their own business at all. Apart from a few glitches when the website was new POW have always given excellent customer services and are also very generous with stickers and things. I think they've done pretty well to keep a registry at all! remember, when they started no one know that the print buying market would take off like it has!

Forming a Registry, by RBK on Sept 15, 2006 19:56:15 GMT 1, I agree that POW shouldn't do it - I just think we should band together and have an unofficial one to help aide in authentication.
POW is just going to keep records of the initial sale - us tracking selling prices on ebay and second-hand sales would just serve as an attempt (in no way the final authority).
More and more fakes are going to show up in the marketplace and this will help better establish authenticity.
