Banksy Print Shortage, by mido on Apr 28, 2006 16:57:43 GMT 1, Has anyone else noticed that the number of Banksy prints coming up on ebay has dropped over the last few weeks  It seems like some prints have not appeared for sale for months!  I think this is why we have seen a sharp increase in prices  More people are keeping hold of their collection knowing that the longer they keep it for the more valuable it will be. What do you think? 
yeah you are right. I hadn't noticed but it's true. several prints haven't been up for ages. just J&J, CND, and MQ. that's about all!
Oh and loads of stuff that has just sold out but art republic etc try to make a fast buck out of.
I now have to wade through 8 pages of 'banksy' stuff to get to the very few prints actually on sale :-)

Early prints were bought largely by fans or collectors and so the people with stuff like Happy Choppers, Queen Victoria and the like are loathe to sell as they know they'll never get the chance to own such a print again. I don't think people are necessarily holding on to the early stuff in the hope that it increases in value, I think it's just that the people who own the older and rarer prints will never sell. Have you ever seen a signed 'Love Is In The Air' for sale?

that explains the shortage in my opinion - people not buying 1 or 2, but buying 5, 10 god knows how many prints. these very same people profess to be 'fans' moaning about about POW's new website coming online - they are not, they are just johnny come latelys cashing in because they have more flex in their plastic.
POW have to limit purchases of prints, and if they do then I expect the market to not so much collapse, but definitely drop.
