FS BANKSY CND Soldiers for iMac, by atomone on Nov 6, 2011 14:28:32 GMT 1, Sadly my iMac packed up yesterday and without having backed up for an age I have lost years of music and memories! Gutted is an understatement and so to add insult to injury I am having to sell my Banksy CND Soldiers, is in MINT CONDITION and comes with all the relevant paperwork from Dora to prove its provenience! It is from the unsigned edition of 350 and is registered with Art Republic.
Obviously I am looking for the best offer to help fund a new mac ASAP so PM me your best offer and we can take it from there...
This thread was send from my ipad...technology eh...who'd have it!

FS BANKSY CND Soldiers for iMac, by stillborncrisps on Nov 6, 2011 14:39:24 GMT 1, What's happened to it exactly?
You might be able to take the hard drive out andput it in an external case (ยฃ10), hook it up to another machine and copy all your porn back across.
Worked for me.

edited, don't know I told you to take it to a repair specialist xmyart, not yours to do so!

It basically crashed when I was downloading a movie (of the non porn type-for a change) ;D and left me with an apple icon with green lines on it and that was that! Think it is something to do with the logic board, it is over 4 years old too and think it was on it's way out so time I invested I guess! Praying it's not the hard drive that has packed up!?!

FS BANKSY CND Soldiers for iMac, by Michael Jacob on Nov 6, 2011 15:02:24 GMT 1, if you know how to take out your hardrive, im sure it can be saved. Ive had luck freezing the harddrive overnight then putting it back in. If that doesnt work, there are companies that specialize in recovery. When you do get back up and running, make sure to use Time Machine. Its great!

FS BANKSY CND Soldiers for iMac, by stillborncrisps on Nov 6, 2011 17:39:03 GMT 1, If it is the logic board, your HD will be fine. You could even put it in another machine (of the same spec) boot it up and it'd carry on like nothing had happened.
Dunno which iMac you've got, but here's a guide to getting one out of a G5 17" www.ifixit.com/Guide/iMac-G5-17-Inch-Model-A1058-Hard-Drive-Replacement/962/1
That site's got guides for all other models so have a dig around. I'm not too techie either, but have done this with at least 3 MacBooks over the years.
Don't take it to mac repair or a recovery place, they'll charge you the earth, you can get your data off for less than a tenner. And if you can't, they won't be able to either.
What's this mac/green line icon you're seeing? not heard of that one before?

Thank you for all your help stillborncrisps! This forum can be great help at times! Much appreciated! Have had to bite the bullet and get the mac this afternoon so will work out how to transfer it all over in due course hopefully! This shot was taken on my phone so probably looks worse than it does! Thanks again!

FS BANKSY CND Soldiers for iMac, by notworthit on Nov 6, 2011 22:42:27 GMT 1, Yep, that's definitely your logic board. You will still be able to access your hd tho.
If you have another mac, turn off your broken iMac, connect them to each other with a firewire cable, turn it back on while holding down the T key until a firewire icon shows up on your broken iMac screen and you should have the HD as an orange "target disk" icon on the desktop of the new puter. You can now access everything and copy it over.
Hope that made sense.

Woah, never seen one of those before.
According to this thread, it's just your graphics card: discussions.apple.com/thread/2201553?start=0&tstart=0
Which explains why the green lines are also in the twirly thing at the bottom.
Do your macs both have firewire? If so you can probably copy your stuff just using 'Target mode' (no need to even open the case!).
Look for a logo amongst the ports that looks like this:
If both machine have it, hook them up (there's two types of firewire, a big and a small so get the right cable). Switch on your new machine. Switch on the broken mac and hold down 'T' till the screen shows the Firewire logo. It should now appear as an extra drive on your new machine and you can copy over whatever you want.
It will be lightening quick too coz Firewire's faaaaaaaaassst.
