FS Penny TV$, by jusdeep on Nov 26, 2011 18:33:29 GMT 1, I would say a bit of both. I'm sure this was available for a while at Unhuman (R&R) and didn't sell out instantly like most of his releases. It doesn't have such an appealing lady image. Some of his other more desirable notes have sold on auction sites for a lot less, who knows? Still a nice image and clever as usual. Don't believe the Hype.

I know what you mean about the "appealing lady image" although I'm not sure the wife would agree!.
I'm pretty sure this sold out instantylyu form Penny's shop, what / where is Unhuman (R&R)?

I think the asking price is the first barrier. Get the price right and it will sell

FS Penny TV$, by Wearology on Nov 27, 2011 0:39:16 GMT 1, People say they love Penny on here but reality is that they are not willing to pay for his artwork on the secondary market. I had a 1/1 Prey for sale on here at cost a few months ago and didn't get any nibbles. I would have even welcomed a time waster at that point. Penny is a great artist but forumites are hesitant to buy his work at the source and or the secondary market due to the perceived lack of flipability for his art.

His recent work sells out at source on day of release (not including old variant on POW) - the opposite of hesitant sales. Nice sweeping opinion that forumites are flippers.

Agree that Penny is a great artist, but the fear of not being a suitable investments for flippers can only be good for those who really appreciate his work, as it keeps the price of some of it down to sensible levels. Although with Penny it all depends on the pieces being offered, with his ladies on notes there are more people after them than there are pieces available, I am sure if a Lexine or Thumbelina went up on the forum it would sell quickly for a very tidy profit over the original cost, also the recent releases on Pennys site were sold as soon as they went up disappointing quite a few on here. IMO Penny falls into the same group of artist such as Xenz their work is mostly appreciated by only those who buy it to keep, display and enjoy, but not because they look on it only as an investment, it is a shame that there are not a few more artists in this group.

FS Penny TV$, by gibbin82 on Nov 27, 2011 1:11:12 GMT 1, There is also an asumption that every piece of art bought has a right to make money, I often see things being sold for cost and we all think that is such a good gesture (not knocking anyone who does this when they could make more and don't have to sell for cost). But why should we expect to make money or at leat get our money back when we have owned something and hopefully receive great pleasure from having it, we wouldn't expect to do the same with a new car or TV so why should we with art. Possibly talking rubbish here, but it is just a thought

FS Penny TV$, by hanksy on Nov 27, 2011 1:39:05 GMT 1, Have to agree with gibbin for making some quality points. there's no doubt the dude is talented - i own a penny, and watch the forum constantly for his work, guy gets respect but there just doesn't seem to be a strong overall market for him. Trying to flip a recent edition for 100% profit isn't highly likely.
Personally, conceptually i'd really like to see him take it to a new level, (abe's babes was a serious disappointment. imagine a NBG on a bill instead!), but until then it's gonna be just the Penny Fans like myself and not the wider audience. Also keep in mind his release prices have been escalating regularly, TV$ was at the high end, ยฃ175, Crying Shame was ยฃ100, Lexine was ยฃ40. True, at least the editions remain very limited but the market doesn't seem to be expanding. At Rook and Raven, 3 (of 5) 'Departure the Witches' are still available, and now discounted. Though from ยฃ1050 to ยฃ990.00.
Reminds me of Kenny Random. Solid fan base, sells out editions (at least, mostly in his case), but no strong secondary market.

FS Penny TV$, by cameron138 on Dec 28, 2011 22:17:01 GMT 1, Well I just paid 925.00 for Penny's One Cloud on the secondary market. At first I thought, "what am I doing?". Then I met the seller and saw the piece. Honestly, it's the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Fuck flipability, it is a genuine masterpiece. As for the smaller stenciled notes, I appreciate them but I like my art with a bit more meat. Good luck with the sale. Penny is definately a talented artist.
