RIP Shelagh Delaney, by Coach on Nov 21, 2011 20:27:55 GMT 1, RIP Shelagh Delaney who died today. Auther of, most famously, A Taste Of Honey. Great play, fabulous film version staring Rita Tushingham - a must watch for any Smiths fans - littered with lines that Morrisey borrowed for Smiths songs.
From Ch4 website
"Shelagh Delaney, who wrote the screenplay for the seminal work A Taste of Honey, cited by singer Morrissey as the best film of the 1960s, has died after a battle with cancer. ....... In a 1986 interview with NME, the singer, then with The Smiths, said: "I've never made any secret of the fact that at least 50 per cent of my reason for writing can be blamed on Shelagh Delaney." Delaney's own image is used in the artwork for the Smiths' Louder Than Bombs album."
Still have my early copy of a Taste of Honey - one of my favorite books. c
