FAILE'S LAZARIDES SHOW IS AN ABOMINATION, by estatebuyersmia on Nov 4, 2011 3:13:23 GMT 1, Faile's new work is really bad. Each painting showcases their inability to paint. Kind of reminds me of a bad Nagel on acid. The show at Lazarides will ruin their career. They should have stuck to stenciling. Kind of sad that this duo is a one trick pony.

FAILE'S LAZARIDES SHOW IS AN ABOMINATION, by misterx on Nov 4, 2011 4:25:23 GMT 1, You seem pretty motivated to get your "opinion" out there...you even created two threads, both with the exact same text in each...
Sadly, although I don't feel the need for two threads, I agree.

What happened, they didn't treat you with a beer when you asked or what ? ;-)

FAILE'S LAZARIDES SHOW IS AN ABOMINATION, by Deleted on Nov 4, 2011 9:21:21 GMT 1, Indeed. Banksy is reputed to be be good at stencilling with some political commentary now and then and so it goes on...one trick ponies the lot of 'em.

FAILE'S LAZARIDES SHOW IS AN ABOMINATION, by cutiehoney on Nov 4, 2011 9:30:45 GMT 1, Did you actually go to the show? And who made you the judge and jury? "An abomination" to who?
Everyone has their own tastes. I liked some, didn't like others. But I think Faile are brave and its an expansion of their body of work. There is a link between the old stenciling and the new painting. I think they are "growers"!
I go and see a lot of art... some things I love, some things I like , and others aren't for me.... but just because its not my tastes, I would never Slam the work.
Maybe you are just upset because you didn't get a book cover! ;D

FAILE'S LAZARIDES SHOW IS AN ABOMINATION, by sashaz on Nov 4, 2011 9:57:05 GMT 1, IMHO i am a bit tired of banksy, its the same old stuff every release, political/social comment done with witty stencil, maybe he has to branch out a little to stretch himself and give himself a longer shelf life.

FAILE'S LAZARIDES SHOW IS AN ABOMINATION, by aj2010 on Nov 4, 2011 10:53:02 GMT 1, I haven't seen the Faile stuff in person only the Laz/Faile photo's and I must admit that I am underwhelmed by this new direction.

I couldn't agree more.
I'm all for freedom of speech and expressing your opinion, but no need for 2 negative threads. Instead, it would interesting to hear why you don't like their new work. I personally think it is sophisticated and a refreshing change from their prints, which have already been done extensively. I really liked a few of them and would much rather spend 25k on one of their paintings than a lot of other so called "art". The original book covers were also brilliant, and very affordable at £500 framed. With their more classic work showcased upstairs I thought it was a great show all in all!

Who dares speak ill of Banksy!off with his thumbs... and i agree. the best part of Faile show is the mural outside.

FAILE'S LAZARIDES SHOW IS AN ABOMINATION, by estatebuyersmia on Nov 4, 2011 21:59:39 GMT 1, Its obvious they can't paint. The works are very loose and not well executed. I wouldn't have shown this work, it is weak at best. This show will ruin their career. There a lot of artists that cant paint and due to publicity have gained international fame. Artists in that category are Space Invader, Mr Brainwash, Faile, and Shepard Fairey Its more hype than substance !!

FAILE'S LAZARIDES SHOW IS AN ABOMINATION, by stillborncrisps on Nov 4, 2011 22:13:31 GMT 1, There's nothing wrong with being an artist and not being able to paint. If you think it's a prerequisite, I think you've missed the point of modern (and dare I say it, urban) art.
Agreed though, if you can't, keep your doodlings hidden!

FAILE'S LAZARIDES SHOW IS AN ABOMINATION, by andrewd on Nov 4, 2011 22:29:05 GMT 1, Yes but normally you'd pay someone else to paint for you! For me it was only the continuity of the backgrounds that didn't work 100 per cent. saying that not sure if this was deliberate or not. i.e was it a nod to cut and paste and not everything fitting exactly. Certainly not all the limbs were joined up. I think people are missing a trick here. Images were strong and fresh.

FAILE'S LAZARIDES SHOW IS AN ABOMINATION, by twist65 on Nov 5, 2011 19:01:59 GMT 1, Really? I've seen a small amount from his early commercial career plus some 'sketches' that were in a show near me and would never have guessed that. If true I'm not sure whether to be disappointed or totally impressed!!

FAILE'S LAZARIDES SHOW IS AN ABOMINATION, by stillborncrisps on Nov 6, 2011 2:19:15 GMT 1, That's reminded me, I went to a show of Warhol pencil sketches about 10 years ago, drawn before he was 'famous'. ISTR they were mostly semi-erotic, and for his own enjoyment. And yes, he could draw.
Back to FAILE, I went down today and I have to say, they're not as bad in the flesh. Mainly as they're about 8ft high, which really changes the view of the details vs the brushstrokes. Looking at pics on screen @ less than a tenth the size doesn't do them any favours.
Overall though, I'm still surprised they put them out. Also, upstairs is closed Saturdays so didn't get to see the stuff I really wanted to.

FAILE'S LAZARIDES SHOW IS AN ABOMINATION, by tsteve on May 8, 2012 20:18:17 GMT 1, I believe that there was also some guy named Van Gogh, whose paintings were also ridiculed at the time. Not suggesting that this is anywhere near the same category, but the old saying about beauty, eyes and beholders does come to mind. Don't buy what you don't like, but no need to tell other people that they shouldn't like it.

FAILE'S LAZARIDES SHOW IS AN ABOMINATION, by Meskell on May 8, 2012 20:50:10 GMT 1, I really like the work from this show. But as with most things when people get used to a certain style, especially one they like, anything that deviates from that is usually met with distaste or mixed feelings. I was a little unsure myself upon first viewing especially due to the faceless figures but after spending the time really looking at each of the pieces they've really grown on me. I would be more than happy hanging a few of these on my walls. If prices allowed me to. And it's ironic that the OP chose this particular image because it's my favorite of the bunch.
