Just bought this Sepia on eBay..., by markrobbo on Jun 10, 2007 13:11:50 GMT 1, Just purchased my 1st Banksy (Sepia) on eBay and think i've got a good price.
Excluding the obvious, which is the seller has zero feedback, does the print look kosher? I've requested I am emailed the original transaction info, sellers name and print number and I was planning on liaising with POW prior to sending payment to ensure its registered correctly.
Does the above sound suitable and does the print look genuine?
Thanks in advance, link below...
cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=320121423050&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=011
Item no 320121423050 if the link doesn't work.

Just bought this Sepia on eBay..., by Winter on Jun 10, 2007 13:15:45 GMT 1, I think the fact he/she has no feedback would put many people off. It does look fine though. I bought one from the States and it all went fine. That is a fantastic price. Good luck.

Just bought this Sepia on eBay..., by finsburyparkranger on Jun 10, 2007 13:16:10 GMT 1, Have you considerd the customs and tax implications for it coming from the US? Oh unless thats where you're from. Others can guide you on it but if you are from the Uk you may be liable for duty plus tax, I think, if you don't try sending it as a gift at which point you won't be properly insured (and that would be illegal). Even if you have to pay taxes on it it is still worth is it IMO.

Just bought this Sepia on eBay..., by markrobbo on Jun 10, 2007 13:43:09 GMT 1, thanks for the advice everyone. I had thought of the tax implications and i'm in discussions with the seller.
Prices seem to be ยฃ3,000 - ยฃ3,500 in recent weeks on these so im happy with the price I paid as its a great print.
What price does everyone expect these to peak at? I notice other Signed Banksy's selling for ยฃ5k+ comfortably and they are earlier editions... I suspect Morans will appreciate in value too over the years but would be good to get other collectors views on the level this will reach.
Cheers

Are you buying just for investment?
I'd put it in a frame and enjoy it, yes it will probably be worth more in the future no one knows for sure of course, would you still be happy if you got your money back in two or three years time? I would be, cos I'd of been able to enjoy the art in the meantime for 'free'.

Just bought this Sepia on eBay..., by markrobbo on Jun 10, 2007 14:00:00 GMT 1, No i'm buying it to put on the wall because I love the print. I have lots of Doug Hyde prints, including an original and also collect rare football memorabilia because I like them. I don't like all of Banksy's prints but this was I love, along with "Laugh Now".
However, I'd be lying if I wasn't consious about spending over ยฃ2k on something that may be worth less in years to come. I suspect that wont be the case though.

Just bought this Sepia on eBay..., by dave313perry on Jun 10, 2007 14:02:33 GMT 1, Im just kidding i understand, i cant afford to buy a piece of art for 3k that is going to depreciate to 1k after a year. I couldnt justify it! but if it holds its value i will be more than happy! and delighted if it flies through the roof!
In my opinion its a safe investment

Of course we don't want to lose money when we spend so much, although most things we buy ( furniture, Hi Fi, cars, jewelry etc) do lose money but at least they all bring enjoyment in the meantime, so if you look at your art like that you'd probably not mind even if it does go down. Buying art for investment is a dodgy game IMO.
I bet you won't lose any money and you'll most likely make some, you'll have to wait and find out, even when you decide to sell you'll never know how much more it'll gain till the time has passed. I'm sure lots of people who bought signed Banksy's at ยฃ500 and sold at ยฃ1500 thought they'd done really well but are now probably kicking themselves that they're worth ยฃ4000.
I'm glad I don't bother about that side of it, obviously I don't want any accident to happen to them, but as I've said before its a double edged sword. If my prints sky rocket in value I'll feel I'll have to sell them as I won't be able to justify having that much wealth tied up hanging on the wall when other more important necessities require the money, but I'll really miss the art. If the prices stay the same or go down I get to enjoy the art as always intended.

Just bought this Sepia on eBay..., by gordy on Jun 10, 2007 14:42:29 GMT 1, Because of the rise in prices more and more of the old prints will come up for sale....how many people could resist ยฃ4000- ยฃ7000 for a print that probably cost them ยฃ75!
Who would pay ยฃ7000 for a signed love rat though???
Some of the prices come up on e-bay are laughable.... ;D

Just bought this Sepia on eBay..., by Michael Jacob on Jun 10, 2007 15:18:03 GMT 1, you got a good deal. I was the second highest bidder. the seller called me last night at home. they are selling it for a friend who is camping and needs the money. i thought it was iffy, but after talking with them, they seemed cool. I also have their phone number if you need. Lastly, if you dont want it, Ill take it. I know the VAT can be really high (luckily for me I could have picked it up in person). I would NOT have it shipped WITHOUT paying for full insurance, its not worth the risk. Good luck.

Make the seller use PAYPAL and use a credit card that offers insurance on goods you purchase...
Good Luck

That story crazyjake posted about the seller seems weird. "Hey friend, I'm here camping and need some cash. Can you go put my Banksy up on eBay?"

As for zero feedback - been there too - though with an ebayer in the uk. Proceed , as others have said, with caution... and you should be ok. Any questions - let us know !
Start off with this one - get the full name of the seller and the number and verfiy with pow tomorrow - for starters !

Its pure insanity to put that money up w/minimal paypal coverage. Only a few weeks ago many sepias were going for $4500 usd on ebay from solid sellers. Now the prints are drying up and realising that they might have waited too long... peeps seem to be getting a little bit desperate so as to avoid the "damn i could have had it for $4500 usd!"

Just bought this Sepia on eBay..., by Michael Jacob on Jun 11, 2007 14:52:35 GMT 1, It me again. I posted earlier stating I spoke with the seller. They seemed fair enough. Another good idea is make them use a escrow service. I used one a while back buying a Warhol soupcan out of Finland. I put money into a ebay approved escrow service. Once the funds were verified, the seller shipped me the artwork. Once I approved the artwork, I released the money to the seller. It slows down the process a little, but I slept at night. I hope the deal works out for MARKROBBO.
