Shipping rather expensive Banksy from USA to UK, by dave313perry on May 30, 2007 22:51:32 GMT 1, I received a print from the US, there is a thread im sure someone will point you too which you will probably find more helpful,
my experience...I wished to avoid the customs charges as the print was around 4.5K usd. The seller put the print in the tube, bubble wrapped the tube and then put it in a box, it was then labelled as a gift of $20 to avoid custom/taxes of what i believe could have been a fair few hundred pounds, let alone dollars!!
my print arrived fine and in mint condition although the risk is that it is damaged and then your not covered by the posts insurance, this is of course the buyers problem,
i would request from the buyer which method they would prefer and warn them of the conciquences!!!
Cheers Dave

Shipping rather expensive Banksy from USA to UK, by romanywg on May 30, 2007 23:11:21 GMT 1, You have 2 options. 1) You insure it for it's full value and the buyer pays VAT @17.5% and customs duty. 2) You mark it as a gift and at a value of less than £30 and the buyer pays nothing this end. Problem is if it gets lost in the post the buyer is $6000 out of pocket!

Shipping rather expensive Banksy from USA to UK, by sausageboonwee on May 31, 2007 0:06:00 GMT 1, Received a signed Morons last week from the US. $20 gift marked on the tube. The postman left it with my seriously old neighbour who suddenly realised she had it at 11pm last friday night when she appeared on my doorstep in her dressing gown. No charges and a perfect print. Result.

Shipping rather expensive Banksy from USA to UK, by ®at on May 31, 2007 1:41:48 GMT 1, What I do when I send prints to the US.... Insure it fully and send recorded, then slap the customs label on just as you hand it over- marked as gift and a lower value - ie, if its worth $6000, then put $60 on the label Its never failed or been spotted, and noone ive ever sent anything to has been charged import duty. Helps I guess that I am a regular at the post office- but all they do anyway is just check that you have attached a customs form on it- they never check whats written on it.
Put a blank customs sticker inside the tube for the seller to use if a claim is needed. The post office and tax people have f**ked me over enough times, so its payback. At any rate, I have paid for the insurance- the form is simply import duty avoidance.
I wouldnt ever send a valuable print unrecorded or uninsured- and I would go postal at anyone who sent me something valuable by an uninsured method.

Shipping rather expensive Banksy from USA to UK, by Michael Jacob on May 31, 2007 2:22:28 GMT 1, I sent a print overseas and required it be insured for the full amount. I understand the VAT really stinks, but if it gets lost or damaged, you'll loose everything. Its not worth it. After talking to the UK buyer he agreed the risk was too high to roll the dice. I hope this helps. I used USPS and double tubed the print. Good luck!

Shipping rather expensive Banksy from USA to UK, by Curley on May 31, 2007 8:15:54 GMT 1, Pls bear in mind when posting on a public forum that making false claims on customs declaration is actually tax evasion and criminal offence. Customs and excise have the power to come round your house and sieze any goods that they feel have been imported without said tax being paid.
i know it not what anyone wants to read but making claims on public websites as to how you have cheated Customs is not a smart move in my book as they will soon be wise to all your tricks.

Shipping rather expensive Banksy from USA to UK, by dave313perry on May 31, 2007 8:55:18 GMT 1, this is not an uncommon occurance and not worth the tax mans time! if it was he could easily track all the overseas purchases made on ebay and track them all! the chances you will get caught are next to none, but there is always that chance, as is the chance of the print getting damaged. You can also send a print special/recorded delivery with tracking number, even it is a gift of $30! then you can see exactly where it is and cant get lost, This info is to the Best of my knowledge and from past experience.

Shipping rather expensive Banksy from USA to UK, by Vsix on May 31, 2007 9:15:10 GMT 1, Also be careful of insurance, sometimes you can pay extra to insure an item to its true value, but later find out the item is not insured. A lot of couriers will not insure Art, Prints Collectables etc. You need to carefully check their terms and conditions. Personally I would never be comfortable sending an item through the post which is not insured.

So anyway, if your gonna smuggle cocaine, the best thing to do, is cut it really fine, mix it with water until it becomes paste like, then make a series of ltd edition screenprints with small areas of "diamond dust".. charge 500 quid a print and you can export them around the world.. but don't tell anyone I told ya ;D
