Tissue in folios, by Hubble Bubble on Dec 24, 2011 18:02:17 GMT 1, Advice please
Finally got around to sorting out a folio for artwork currently not on the wall.
Standard A1 acid free sleeves and card in a zip up portfolio case. But should I slide tissue over the art too? It affects my ability to enjoy viewing the art in the folio and isn't totally flat on some prints. I'm concerned this might cause some indentation as the art lies flat.
Thanks HB
Advice please

If the sleeves are acid free.. tissue is not needed. Frame them and enjoy viewing them on the wall

Tissue in folios, by .dappy on Dec 24, 2011 18:16:30 GMT 1, If you have used archival sleeves for each print then you should not need to use tissue paper on top. If you are putting multiple prints/art in each sleeve then I would use tissue paper between each print.
Only exception is when chalks/pastels/charcoal is used eg on recent Dran pieces I have Chalks, I Love You etc etc when a sheet on top of the piece will help protect the artwork against the sleeve.
Remember to use plain/white acid free tissue paper. Staples do some - handy if you only need a sheet or two, although I buy from here - www.atlantisart.co.uk/ just off Brick Lane, London.
Enjoy viewing your art - and show off to friends and family - better than sitting going through holiday photos - at least that is what I tell them ;D

Tissue in folios, by jusdeep on Dec 24, 2011 18:21:49 GMT 1, As above have said, but if you're using one of the zip up folios with 'ring binder' sleeves I would use acid free tissue as these are not totally archival. Prints can stick also, so just be aware of changes in temperature causing humidity. As Dappy has said unless they are hand finished in some way and something can stick or rub off, there is no need.

Tissue in folios, by .dappy on Dec 24, 2011 18:43:10 GMT 1, As jusdeep says Normal/Essential even 'Professional' ringbinder art sleeves are not archival/acid free although sometimes advertised with 'acid free insert'. Look for archival sleeves .. you can get them as ringbound as well.

Tissue in folios, by jusdeep on Dec 24, 2011 19:03:00 GMT 1, A lot of them state they are acid free or archival, but from experience I know this not to be true. I had a couple of folios when I was at art college and over the years the sleeves degraded, rippled, coloured and eventually ruined most of the artwork in them. Just a word of caution, do your research or you may regret it at a later date. There are plenty of discussions on good quality sleeves in the 'Framing Advice and Art Care' section.

Tissue in folios, by iamzero on Dec 29, 2011 10:22:05 GMT 1, I've just bought some Archival quality sleeves from Ken Bromley and have put stuff of my collection in them to flatten out before framing but one of the hand finished Prefab prints has started to stick to the sleeve.
Should this happen with Archival sleeves or have they sent me the wrong ones and how do I tell the standard Artcare Mapac sleeves from the Archival ones?

Tissue in folios, by iamzero on Dec 29, 2011 23:01:37 GMT 1, Yeah I think I was being a bit of a drama queen and it was really only one of my Prefab77 prints that was sticking from the spray paint.
I have some acid free tissue or paper that I'll put inbetween the sleeve and the prints.

Tissue in folios, by .dappy on Jan 7, 2012 21:04:33 GMT 1, general post - mapac use a different product code for their archival sleeves - if I remember correctly they use the same product code number for each of the sleeve sizes for both standard and archival sleeves and only alter one of the numbers into the middle of the product code. The product code is stamped on the edge of the sleeve - at least it is on the ones for ringbinders. Google mapac followed by the product code and 'search' and you can see if you have got the right ones.
