Dolk Che Canvas, by sfinks on Dec 28, 2011 16:41:14 GMT 1, I guess some compare Dolk with Banksy and as we all know Banksys are too expensive for most, Dolks are still affordable.
Also street art has allot of new customers these days, who haven't heard of all the other good artists, and just want a nice clean street art piece from "one of the biggest".

Have a potential buyer for you, will take it in PM from here.

Again each to their own, but i think those comparing dolk to banksy arent really aware that their elbow and ass look different...
Dolk is much more similar to Blek IMO, its about images, not messages. (in the main part, obviously some of his work has messages, as does Bleks).
IMO of course, just my thoughts, and as mentioned i like some of dolks work, certainly zooicide has a strong message.

I was with you until the last part. What "strong message" do you find in zooicide? To me it just looks like another tired visual pun involving a banana.

edit - yeah the title gives it away! still, he looks sad, like animals do in rubbish zoos.
Another edit - no disrespect to zoo's, or those that work in them, unless you are a rubbish zoo/work in a rubbish zoo, in which case lots of disrespect meant, sort it out. Enrichment programs etc.

**Beat Box Disclaimer - I have bought a load of his stuff at the top end price point and I desperately hope I am I right, otherwise I have been stuffed!
***Little Hugh Disclaimer - I am not buying this "price hike", especially as I am looking for a Dolk Police line and don't want to spend silly money of hyped prices!!

Fair enough!
If after a fair few years his work is still selling at high prices, ala banksy, i will happily eat my words and apologise to all..... Until then it remains in my eyes not a valid commentary on the quality of his work, but is more to do with the hype atm. Again, i do like some of dolks work, but it has happened before..... (See Nick Walker, Blek, Beejoir etc).
EDIT - i like beejoir, blek and nick walkers work, no disrespect to any of them, all key figures in the scene IMO, just talking price fluctuation due to hype.
Again, this is just my opinion and i will happily be proved wrong.

Dolk Che Canvas, by boatyyy on Dec 28, 2011 19:23:42 GMT 1, i have an original dolk prison painter and i'll try to describe some reactions received from visitors (none who are into art collecting, of any sort - and would never pay a cent for any of it):
- from the guy who was repairing and painting the walls in a room of my home: "oh my god, that is a beautiful painting; that's me; wow..." - i gather he saw a wall painter;
- a good friend, who just came out of prison, came to visit: "that's cool, but not sure about the stripes; - not sure you should put that there for people to see when they come over..."- he was advising me on location (really nice guy - hope he stays out of trouble)...
-my elderly uncle was over to dinner and it was sitting on the mantle in the dining room: "tell that guy in that picture there's no smoking in here..." - simply because the hand was near the sidepocket (i whispered to his wife, my aunt, that his glasses def needed checking...)
-me myself, an idiot art buyer, when i first saw it - it took me one second to decide (but that's how i decide on art generally anyways) - i saw the prisons we create for ourselves (at the time of purchase, i was in a mental zone where i was questioning why i had put myself in a situation i created...and i had a couple of bucks to burn)
now, what the artist intended - may never know... this "art" stuff cracks me up...
(except for the piece that Banksy now has at the Walker gallery - count myself blessed to be in an age of when it was created - one of the greatest pieces of art, ever...)
true story... sorry, i'm not sure why i wrote this in this thread...

Offcorse one can argue who is big or not. Personally i would say Blek Le Rat is the biggest for historical reasons. But in Norway Dolk is considered as a big one obviously.
But what do we measure "big" in? Sale, price, publicity, demand?
Keep in mind, the artists in your list are all americans or based in the US, so they are bigger there then in EU. Same with EU art vs US i guess.

Dolk Che Canvas, by rottenredrooster on Dec 28, 2011 21:38:54 GMT 1, Thought I'd give my two cents worth... As much as I like Dolk. I think the hype conjured up by the Norwegian press about investing money is going to come to nothing and to those who think he's the next big thing, have a look around at the other great artists blossoming.
At the end of the day Norway has the forth highest income in the world, so a large percentage have the ability over there to buy it all up adding to the hype.
If I was holding onto Dolk in vain hope that they would one day be worth, as someone put it 'a lot in five years', I would offload it right now.
Anyway just my opinion on the matter.

Agree on everything there. All Iโm saying is that the demand for some pieces is huge now, therefor the prices are extreme. Not saying he will be the next Banksy, only that some consider some of his pieces very attractive. One example is that Dolk was painting his work INSIDE the walls of the world most modern prison(Halden prison) witch he was payed a huge amount for. Nuart is arranged very near his birth town.
So i can see why he is so big in Norway, and not the rest of the world.
