in all fairness if you wanted a invader print you only had to cue for an hour or so, i got there at 1.30 and got 1. but the father son team was a pisstake.

Yeh that was me. Not sure what that has to do with you flipping?!
I only asked how you managed to pick it up as you were in the UK & show was in US. I emailed them weeks before show to keep me informed if there was any hope for UK buyers. Had a reply but no follow up from AD. Said i wouldnt deal with them again. That was my pm to you. You beat Fox news to that story!
Look forward to seeing it on ebay - very soon!

Who is this Lukerstud who is using my name in vain?
I've previously floated the idea of a contribution based 'inner circle' and it was rightly knocked back. There's many great threads on the forum which go on and on - my recent art buy being a showcase of some seriously great hype free pieces which might require a bit of saving for most but....
'Trade only' means for money imo.
Fundamentally, if some of the hype and the profit were taken out release price by the gallery then 'we' wouldn't have all this aggro. The most recent Dran piece in my view was not strong but a good example of priced to market (ish).
Isn't Wilfsboy the bloke who Paulypaul on WK alleged was knowingly selling fake Di faced tenners? Tut tut, poorer form than shamelessly flipping two Invaders even......

From recent experience the reason for this is because people here are collectors they want the new prints but not to get rid of older ones and therefore would rather offer cash or some really cr@p print
Now I am sure some people who say they want to trade really just want to get the pms offering cash but others are prob looking for a trade but cant get one.
My scream is sill up for trade if anyone has anything interesting/decent

-free market should prevail - do what you want w/ it once it's yours - buy/sell at levels parties are willing to execute at;
-the forum structure shouldn't change just to deter 'flippas' - folks who missed out on a release who do not support such flippin should consider not buying from the 'flippas';
-limiting read access to 'members only' could present a problem as some members are not able to logon during work hours etc, but do peruse on a read-only basis thru out the day etc etc etc (many other reasons);
-keep having fun kicking around members and non-members who come on here 'flippin'
in summary, leave as is, imo...

Was a great forum.. PaulyPaul's posts (think I got correct name)?? brilliant - always controversial, winding every one up. Although on here best post of 2011 must have been that "f*ck you Banksy" rant on the gorrilla release ;D more of that is needed. Where's the guy who use to have the biggest trainer collection and talk like a rapper gone?? remember him??... brilliant!! he use to crack me up also...

I still think the onus on preventing flipping should lie with the galleries/print shops though, how hard is it to keep buyers records and have someone keep an occasional eye on eBay, forums etc? these things are numbered, often sold electronically and for several hundred quid a pop FFS. They aren't going to catch everyone doing it, but blacklisting and refusing to sell to those who've been caught selling within say, 6 months of purchase is a viable deterrent IMO

Edit.... thinking about it though, in reality the gallery wants to sell out and prices accordingly. They've made their profit and that's what matters to them. We all do the hype and decide what we think is market value for the prints. Then sell whatever other prints we own in order to purchase another. And on and on

I'd hope this would result in a bit of a deceleration in both the frantic blind scramble for releases, and maybe encourage the galleries to start pricing more realistically too
All the 'big' galleries profess a desire to deter flipping, but we're yet to see any of them actually do anything about it.

What 'big' galleries? and where have they professed it?
I would imagine its very much in a galleries interest to create enough hype on an artist to get to the flipping stage. its pretty good marketing, wish i was that clever and motivated

Completely agree, you dont often see Obey prints on here for vast sums of money, they always edition 500 which IMO is a perfect edition size.........
I suppose its a lot about hype also, releasing 50 prints as an up and coming artist you are going to create a frenzy to purchase an early print...
No one person is to blame, be it gallery or artist... Collectors create the market and flippers exploit it.... Take it for what it is and move on, there will be plenty more prints to buy

I dare say a lot of the posters here did the same thing when they started out.
With regard to the flippers, it's pretty boring with everyone having a go at them every single time. If someone really wanted an invader print they would have gone to pow. I'm sick of people saying they missed out etc. how many were stood in the cold in the queue missing out? None I expect. The fact is, the prints are released at less than their market value hence the reason there is a flippers margin. I don't have a problem with it myself.
If members spent as much time queuing for prints as they did moaning about flippers, you'd all have a sodding invader!
Just my thoughts from an outsiders perspective.

...POW have said in the past they'd rather it didn't happen, I've had conversations with staff at Laz/Outsiders, the Obey site claims they disapprove (doesn't stop their latest prints hitting eBay within 6 minutes or so).
Hype is all well and good, it'll always exist around certain artists, but I still feel there's a point at which by being just a little proactive, they could get more art into the hands of legitimate fans
