Is Banksy in New York City?!!!?!, by rrrich on Jan 18, 2012 18:51:10 GMT 1, id say no, execution is pretty poor and i dont think he'd revert back to an old image in such an obvious way. location isn't great either - they've been bigger statements recently or at least bold locations.

Is Banksy in New York City?!!!?!, by calidave on Jan 18, 2012 19:00:11 GMT 1, It looked exactly like the "Love is a riot flower thrower." He could be throwing the tomato can at the Chase building it was next to. Maybe an "anti-bank" snub showing continued "occupy wall street" support. It's definitely Warhol's face!!

It is just someone using the image for it's ubiquity.

It's clearly not banksy in any respect.
I'm sure someone on ebay would pay a couple of grand for it though.

Is Banksy in New York City?!!!?!, by calidave on Jan 18, 2012 23:09:51 GMT 1, As someone new to this forum, let me ask a question to the "Free thinking art appreciators who typically aren't representative of the mass population of small minded a..holes in the world."
Are you NOT allowed to ask the question, "Is Banksy in New York?" without getting ridiculed, or is there an initiation period that involves accepting arragonce from people who most likely don't have the balls to verbally express their profound brilliance to a new graffiti art appreciator face to face?

Is Banksy in New York City?!!!?!, by Coach on Jan 18, 2012 23:23:50 GMT 1, I thought it was real all day until Fragile confirmed that it wasn't. Before that statement by Fragile - why was everyone else on here so convinced that it was 100% NOT by Banksy. I felt it had many all of the attributes that Banksy is known for such as - political satire, references to past pop art icons, poor hands and feet, great placement next to the Chase building. I have no idea what a "bridge" is but I am curious why everyone else felt so strongly it is not by Banksy.
Hey mate. Dead giveaway is pure and simple the quality, imo. The image is simply not of the standard produced by Banksy. I'm no fanboy - but it is easy to appreciate the quality of Banksy's stencils - with this that quality just isnt there. A bridge, if I'm not mistaken, is a small strip used to hold two parts of a stencil together, but which results in a line being left where otherwise onbe might expect there to be spray paint - eg if you were stenciling a O, you might use a bridge to hold the middle bit of the stencil in - otherwsie you get just a filled in circle. At least that is my understanding. 2p.

Dave I hope my comment wasn't seen as ridicule... If so, apologies. It was meant as a light hearted comment on the Warhol recognition. I think most people don't mean their comments in a nasty way... It's just that a couple of dashed off lines as a reply are rarely constructed with the feelings of the recipient in mind. There are some assholes on here, for sure... But also a huge amount of fair-minded and decent people.

Is Banksy in New York City?!!!?!, by Zippy on Jan 19, 2012 0:06:05 GMT 1, Interesting that fragile was called in for authentification. No offence fragile but I had no idea people now wait for you to look and either raise or turn down your thumbs.
Secondly, the question was "is banksy in new York city?" maybe he is there for a little break before the upcoming release. Perhaps he needs a Thomas cook short break to prepare himself for 25 pages of bullsh1t from those who did / did not get lucky in a queue / lottery / online but fight.
Finally, maybe he is in NY for the first leg of the Hirst gold rush stampede? I've got his card marked :-)

1.Because it has no political satire, unless Warhol throwing one of his soupcans has a deep meaning and generally banksy satire is obvious
2. Because banksy does not revisit his very old pieces with a new terrible spin
3. Because it has all the obvious markings of an imitator, ie. take a banksy piece and an add a poor executely idea on top
4. Because its useless
