Cortisone injections, by richskara on Jan 27, 2012 15:49:12 GMT 1, Anyone ever had one?
I suffer with trouble with the discs in my lower back and had to have 4 injections into two of the joints in my spine.
Jesus it was horrible never felt as horrible in my life. Wasn't expecting it to be so bad.

in agony now, well was i am now in a daze like tramadol induced state.

Cortisone injections, by Hubble Bubble on Jan 31, 2012 9:22:14 GMT 1, richskara I had a herniated disc in my back fourteen months ago. I feel your pain. I have made a good recovery following a SNRB injection and programme of physiotherapy -- so much so that just eight months after the incident I was able to complete another Ironman Triathlon in a personal best time.
So there is hope ahead. PM me if you want to chat more.

Cortisone injections, by basho on Feb 1, 2012 1:00:55 GMT 1, I had an appointment for two nerve block injections in my upper spine c6 c7 but scrapped it as a second consultant said it was a waste of time - lucky escape? Not likely as I'm now booked in to have two badly herniated discs replaced with titanium ones - what make really cool is they have to access the spine via my throat..can't wait

I had a SNRB (see above post) and it worked supremely well. I have no axe to grind either way IMHO but the CRUCIAL thing in any root block injection is the person that sticks the needle in you. I made sure I had a specialist spinal surgeon all the way.
My experience of root block was under a general anaesthetic and there was almost zero pain post procedure from the injection itself - certainly when compared to the crippling pain I'd had for five weeks beforehand.
That said, your discs sound totally knackered if they've had to be replaced, so - in your case - a root block would, I reckon, only delay the onset of more problems. So your consultant was right -- the injections would serve little purpose. I think too many people view a root block injection as a silver bullet where it is really just an opportunity to get rid of most of the pain so the sufferer can begin extensive rehab. It is this rehab that shrinks the discs back to position, not the injection.
I hope the operation goes well for you and you don't end up feeling too much like Linda Lovelace...
