Blek 30 year book Rat pieces Framed , by rperry on Feb 4, 2012 19:10:44 GMT 1, Shoot, looks good. Can you post a pic when it is out of the wraps? I need to frame my rats as well. How many inches/CM is the area around the float mount? 2-3 inches?

Blek 30 year book Rat pieces Framed , by xmyart on Feb 4, 2012 19:56:19 GMT 1, Im a bit concerned as far as these go. Like many wooden pieces i have, i had it sat on 2 nails on the wall, for less than 24 hours. It now warped beyond all belief and as far as i am concerned totally buggered.
Its even rippled and lifted accross all the grain points. Also peeled itself off the backing.
This is how it looked on the wall, as i say, LESS than 24 hours.
All opinions welcome, as i see it being due to the thin veneer thats been used. Which was backed due to the possibility of warping (this is what i was told). Seems not to have worked.

Blek 30 year book Rat pieces Framed , by speebe on Feb 4, 2012 20:33:37 GMT 1, Looks to me as though moisture has caused that.
If it was humid in the house and brought in from the cold and mounted near laundry on a rad etc then this could have created the ripples and lifting.
A veneer should be glued with a solvent based contact adhesive, if these guys used a water based wood glue then it might lift if not fully dried or if it got damp.
Either way, I would get in contact with the gallery and start some dialogue, although they could be hard-nosed about this as it arrived in good condition and the environmental factors might have caused the lifting.

Blek 30 year book Rat pieces Framed , by xmyart on Feb 4, 2012 20:44:27 GMT 1, I assure you theres no damp, or humidity. There are also other wooden pieces that have been there for months and are fine. Along with canvasses all over the place in there that are fine.
Im talking to the Gallery people, who are great. But wanted opinions as i wonder the cause. Also dont want to see it happen to anyone else.

Blek 30 year book Rat pieces Framed , by rperry on Feb 4, 2012 21:14:07 GMT 1, Wow X. That is terrible, I knew the wood was actually just a piece of veneer, but I never expected to see that. Mia was very good to deal with, I'm sure she will sort something out. I just wonder if they have any left at this point.
I am going to get mine out of the basement immedately...

Blek 30 year book Rat pieces Framed , by xmyart on Feb 4, 2012 21:18:55 GMT 1, Yeah, talking to Mia about it anyways. It was perfect when it came out of the box to go up, but yeah, less than a day later it was bent to buggery.

Blek 30 year book Rat pieces Framed , by rperry on Feb 4, 2012 21:22:40 GMT 1, The good thing about the thin veneer, as speebe said, is that a good restoration person can whack that back into place with no problem. A little steam/humidity, a little pressure, and nice long sit with a big heavy weight should do the trick.

Blek 30 year book Rat pieces Framed , by rperry on Feb 5, 2012 3:59:16 GMT 1, Yes R, something like that, but I WOULD NOT try it myself. Let the professionals take care of that. It can totally be fixed but you could also make it worse on your own.
