New Policy Required, by Poppy Sunshine on Feb 9, 2012 12:23:06 GMT 1, Just a last ditch call to anyone who has successfully sorted any decent art insurance recently and can recommend a policy provider.
I kicked off my recent search after having an email from loveartinsurance in advance of the art fair at Islington. I tried to fill in the online form which didn't work and told me I needed to contact their office.
After giving all my details and going through the fine points of what I needed over the phone I am still awaiting a quote after a month of making calls and sending emails.
I contacted a few others who deal with Hiscox etc and they have come in pretty expensive.
I wasn't sure what figure to expect to be honest but I certainly need to get the art covered properly now and any help or good pointers would be very much appreciated.
Is it possible to cover the art without the home insurance being included? Probably sounds a stupid question to those who know but I've never really looked deeply into it.
It's pretty clear that we never know how good a policy is until we are in the unfortunate position of having to make a claim so I'm hoping to get the right company at the first attempt.
Thanks in advance for any advice .

New Policy Required, by Hubble Bubble on Feb 9, 2012 13:56:48 GMT 1, I insure on my home contents. All I have to do is let them know if any individual piece is above £5k in value. If it is, I specify it and they give me an extra cost to insure it which isn't too onerous.

HB,
Do them do combined art & bike insurance? Took me ages to find a company that would cover all M's toys the thought of having to find another company that will cover the two is filling me with dread!

New Policy Required, by Hubble Bubble on Feb 9, 2012 14:05:37 GMT 1, L To be honest I took bikes off the policy as the restrictions were too onerous... but yes, both bikes and art were once on the policy at the same time. HB

New Policy Required, by Goooogle Male on Feb 9, 2012 14:45:06 GMT 1, I have M&S standard home insurance. will cover up to £100k incl any number of items worth up to £10k EACH. You don't even need to give them details. This is really good for art collections. I only pay about £20 a month, so £240 a year for full comp. they'll also cover stuff in transit too/from home - so on the way to and from the framers. I just re-did mine (you should ALWAYS re-start insurance from scratch every year as new quotes are always cheaper than renewals) and they ahve 30% off at the mo

New Policy Required, by Poppy Sunshine on Feb 9, 2012 17:12:59 GMT 1, Thanks for the help so far everyone.
rolexbanks......it was Christopher Digby I spoke to and I'm at a complete loss as to why it seems to take so long to get a reply or a figure. Keep asking if they need more info or extra details but nothing is happening. The figure you've got for your policy sounds promising though so I hope they come through soon.

New Policy Required, by Poppy Sunshine on Feb 9, 2012 20:39:54 GMT 1, Seems a really nice chap and spent a lot of time answering my queries and putting my mind at rest. It gave me some confidence that I was in good hands and the comments on here add to that but I'm mystified by the delay and lack of contact.

New Policy Required, by rperry on Feb 9, 2012 22:03:31 GMT 1, GL, we upped our contents insurance, but I haven't tackled formally getting art insurance yet.
I would recommend hiring an appraiser to give you formal insurance values that the insurer will honor. It's all good to be insured, if you don't mind purchase price, or some percentage of, if you have a loss.
Starting an inventory with photos, keep a file with pertinent data, ie sales invoices, print outs of current auction sales (Christies/Sothebys)results, etc. would be a good start that you can do yourself and cut the appraisers fees.
