Update on Banksy's in San Francisco 02/2012, by magpie on Feb 10, 2012 20:24:58 GMT 1, Hello; first post here. I thought I'd post an update on the current state of Banksy's in San Fran as the most current one I could find was from over a year ago.
We found the one in Chinatown by accident; I was actually grooving on the Dragon mural that surrounds it at first, and looked at the Doctor saying to my wife, "doesn't that look like a Banksy?". So we googled it and found out that yes it was, and that there were 5 others in town too! So you can guess what we did for the next 5 hours. Instead of sightseeing like all the other tourists, we went Banksy hunting. The threads about these haven't been updated in a while, and several are gone, so here's their current state.
Peace Heart Doctor, Chinatown 720 Grant Ave. (at Commercial St.):
I love this shot of the tourist standing in front of it taking a photo of something else:
Bird Singing in Tree (masked painter was done by Blek le Rat) Empty parking lot at Mission and Erie Streets.
Glitter Rat, side of Regency Ballroom 1300 Van Ness Avenue:
Airstrike, Columbus and Broadway St intersection (above Italian restaurant)
Osama in Marin Headlands has worn away from the elements; face not visible, and partially covered
All the others are gone: Marker Rat in Haight St, This Will Look Nice on Valencia St., No Trespassing on Mission St, and the Skull and Crossbones Rat on Howard St.

Update on Banksy's in San Francisco 02/2012, by Sally on Feb 10, 2012 22:41:08 GMT 1, Thank you for the update, it sounds like you had a nice tour. I particularly like the rat It's a shame the 'No Trespassing' piece has now gone, I've just done a quick search on Flickr and found this...

Update on Banksy's in San Francisco 02/2012, by lee3 on Feb 10, 2012 23:11:54 GMT 1, Nice, crazy that the peace and love doc inspired those dragons as that was just yellow bricks before Banksy got there. Same of the mission st. bird. I love that nobody has gotten up there and messed with airstrike as it brings a smile to my daily commute. Hope you enjoyed town.

Indeed, the Rat is just fantastic. It's in amazing shape too. The glasses and Anarchy symbol are made entirely of glitter; the glasses are gold glitter and the Anarchy is all purple glitter (no paint underneath). It used to have a a plexiglass over it with silicone sealing it off at the top edge, but it's apparently been recently removed (according to a security guard who said it had been there since the piece went up and didn't know it had come down or why).
Yes, the No Trespassing was probably the most disheartening as it was such a fantastic image, and because of what it's been replaced with. I saw an image of a guy painting the wall brown all around it to cover the tags that surrounded it, and so it was just the Indian perfectly intact on a brown wall:
