LF David Choe - City Girl, Jimi or Death Blossom, by ashrx on Feb 22, 2012 12:56:35 GMT 1, Hi Folk,
Just putting my feelers out for some David Choe. Would love a Jimi hendrix print but they seem quite hard to get hold of and im not sure what the going rate is for them.
I am also looking for City girl and death blossom.
Please PM if you have any of the the above you would like to part with.
Cheers.

LF David Choe - City Girl, Jimi or Death Blossom, by portfolio on Feb 22, 2012 15:02:45 GMT 1, 76 is a different image, hand finished, the first of a hand finishing project - choe's brother doing the printing etc - worth a lot more than the 150 straight forward print.
Check google images or espresso beans for images and info.

Anyone have a non biased idea of what i should be paying for these 3 prints?
Cheers.

LF David Choe - City Girl, Jimi or Death Blossom, by portfolio on Feb 24, 2012 12:30:27 GMT 1, I have both. I can certainly not agree with r0b and would challenge where you get your information from? As lovely as City Girl 150 is, its a straightforward print, no different from any of the others in the same run. If anything, its aura was diminished a little by the standard of the similar sized prints that came after it, not so much 'Diamonds, Tits, Arse....' but the one of the girl falling which sat around for sale at cost for a while. That's my opinion anyway.
As for City Girl 76, while it is not such a detailed image by any stretch of the imagination, it is a hand finished 'original print'. I feel, depending on how early your copy is, might indicate the more effort put in to the hand finishing. Sadly though, not enough come up in image form to make a thorough comparison, but a few have. I have a low number edition and seem to have always had looks of admiration from other 76 owners.....that's the theory behind it anyway.
In my opinion, 76 will always be worth more financially, but ultimately, its down to how each individual feels about the image. My 150 is framed and hung, the 76 is not (at present).
I would guarantee Manty has more of an eye on the current market than i do, so may be correct on the pricing, but personally, i think the hand finished print is far more special and desirable.

LF David Choe - City Girl, Jimi or Death Blossom, by ashrx on Feb 25, 2012 10:35:36 GMT 1, Guys wonder if anyone can answer this one - the city girl ed 150 was released by Outer Edge studios for about $450. Andrew from outer edge has contacted me saying he has one in the gallery for $1500! I have replied saying if you were the people to release it why have you changed the price x3 and funny enough got no reply! Is this not wrong? It is not on their website and the other 3 Choe pieces on there are around $400 - $600.
If say POW released a print can they just triple the price if they fancy?
Cheers all.

LF David Choe - City Girl, Jimi or Death Blossom, by misterx on Feb 25, 2012 10:46:46 GMT 1, Sadly, ala the DH spots, as the stock of the piece diminishes in the gallery, so the price increases.
I wanted to buy a Tauba Auerbach half times a half print about 18 months ago but wifey turned her nose up big time...
Its now double the price and some @ $3K as of yesterday. I left the page on the mac to go do something, and the wife commented on how nice it was....I just bit my lip.

They can price it how ever they like - I guess that's the answer.
Bit of a piss take tho'. I'd be intrigued to know the forum's guesstimate of the value of the 150, I'd like one of these (and it's not $1500, is it?).

I think that 750ยฃ is a great price on this. I have a feeling that these prices will disappear in short order. If you really love this piece as I do, grab it.

My post was relative to the financial value comments made, but yes, 150 is nicer to look at if you want to view it from that shallow perspective. The individual finishing on 76 gives it more back story, some heart and soul that you don't get from a standard print, as such.
And $450 from source? ยฃ190 in UK, can't remember the exchange rate at the time.

So you would rather have an ugly looking print than a "nice" one hanging on your wall, if the back-story is better, or its hand-finished?
Only just woke up, but that sounds ridiculous mate!

...the way it looks is the 'shallow perspective'? ...and here's me thinking how it looked was the most important thing
I'm clearly not doing this art thing right

I genuinely had to read that back a couple of times to make sure that's actually what you wrote.
At least you've tried to justify it by explaining the handfinishing, though let's not get carried away with a bit of pink spray on the hair, a bit of blue spray on the clothing, a few splodges/highlights and a bit of colouring with a green pencil. It's nice, but I hardly think Choe would have spent more than a couple of minutes on each one.
Reading through this thread I did think you had a very strange viewpoint. Then I remembered you were gauging interest to sell your 76 version about 3 months ago and it all made sense.

the username is a work reference, sorry to disappoint, but i see your point. genuinely nothing to do with the portfolio under the bed and all to do with portfolios of commercial buildings.
if you knew me, you'd know how very little i've sold of anything i've ever bought.
it's also a genuine comment that i think the 76 is more special, whether or not i would be willing to sell mine.
the fact remains, most of you have probably not even seen a CG76 in the flesh, so the point is pretty moot really.
Teatwosugars - i didn't know you were still on here mate, but you can tell me your concerns about my comments in person over a beer on thursday night, that is if you're still coming
