Ebay help, by RBK on Aug 20, 2007 20:18:00 GMT 1, I have a print currently for sale on Ebay and the high bidder has (0) feedback and the account just joined in August.
I just sent them an email through Ebay asking them to confirm they are a legitimate bidder. If they don't respond, is it out of order for me to cancel their bid if I believe them to be someone sabotaging the auction?

Ebay help, by Montubu7 on Aug 20, 2007 20:22:19 GMT 1, You can do what you want, its your auction.
Ti be honest if they are a dodgy bidder they are hardly going to say they are dodgy are they?
Pull address details & check they are correct, maybe give them a ring.....

I wouldnt have said so mate, sounds dodgy, especially if it is a print that you could be accused of flipping?

Ebay help, by jam on Aug 20, 2007 20:33:54 GMT 1, ...If they don't respond, is it out of order for me to cancel their bid if I believe them to be someone sabotaging the auction?
Not out of line at all. I would check out their contact info and make sure the phone and address are legit and match their registered name. If you make contact, it should be OK to leave their bid... if you smell a rat, cancel them! Make sure you block their bid after you drop it so they cant jump in at the last minute and cause you grief.

Ebay help, by RBK on Aug 20, 2007 20:35:21 GMT 1, Thanks for the advice guys!
I've emailed them - if they don't respond I'll be cancelling their bid and blocking them. Luckily the next bidder in line is only 5 GBP lower so it also won't look like their is any shilling going on.

Ebay help, by pezlow on Aug 21, 2007 14:20:30 GMT 1, Yup I would like an explanation of bid shielding as well.
On the question I wouldn't cancel his bid yet - after all we all have to start somewhere. I've just sold something to someone with zero feedback and the transaction went like a dream - he paid up within seconds of the auction finishing.

Ebay help, by romanywg on Aug 21, 2007 14:51:39 GMT 1, I sold an amazingly rare qee to a girl in france and it got lost in the post. It was her first buy on ebay too. Eventually turned up 2 months later but probably put her off buying anything else.

In 'my eBay' go to 'Preferences', and under Selling Preferences click 'show' and then 'edit' Buyer Requirements.
In there near the bottom you can set it not accept buyers who havn't got a credit card on file and who have less than 0-5 feedback points.
Should seperate the wheat from the chav for you. :-)

unfortunetly CBL, yes. in light of the sale it seemed appropriate that the avatar should go too and as rabbitlegs have one each they seemed the most befitting recipient(s), so it went to them.

Need to clarify that, that reads as you can block buyers with less than 5 feedback, you cant block buyers with low/no feedback only buyers with -(minus) feedback unless you have activated the multiple items eg block people who have won 1/2/3 etc of your auctions in the past few days.
Credit card blocks are good as well but if someone wants to buy your stuff its easy to get around with a creditcard loophole but il agree it does stop some at least.

It sounds like NRJ911 had idiots who'd just joined eBay bidding for trainers then not paying, rather than people joining to deliberately wreck auctions, so would work in his instance. :-)

Hence my generic advice, are all 4 people the same person?, all brand new to ebay? all mistakes for bidding too much? hence the general advice as we dont know!
