interesting post. was the buyer not provided with a receipt from Other Criteria?

With respect to Hirst's signature, i saw two variations on the signature being sold and i know both variations were "real" as they were sent to me direct from OC.

Just as an example, this ebay auction - no idea if this is the seller who's listing is being contested but in this listing Item number: 250155973914 you can see the variation in signature. He signed both D. Hirst and Damien Hirst.

Anyway, I'm no expert at all but I recieved posters with both signatures as well and know they are legit.

If indeed they are fake, and you know they are fake, there should be a way to get cash back via paypal b/c of being sold fake goods. Also, if the person is a member of this forum, you should name and shame as long as you can confirm s/he is selling fake goods.

On what basis are you saying the signatures are fake, they are different from your piece or did the gallery say the piece he bought was fake?

This is why it's a good idea to number the prints/posters. You can not manufacture a 31/100 without teh possibility of someone else also having that number. I don't know why OC didn't number them - but that would of raised the price by £900 I suspect.

I picked up 2 or 3 signed Hirst posters in person at his last LA exhibit and all 3 sig's are different.

I guess since it's not a numbered edition, the only way to verify authenticity would be for the seller to provide a receipt? It's reasonable to suppose that signatures can vary, depending on how tired the artist is from signing a gazillion posters, or how drunk/stoned/high he is ;D

When I purchased directly at the gallery they didnt have receipts and only took cash. This is for the Superstition poster of which only 100 were supposedly signed and luckily have a Butterfly stamp/ hologram on the back, which the unsigned edition didnt have. All of the signed editions of his posters really should just have the simple stamp on the back. I think the Superstition was the most recent of the posters so maybe this is something that will be done in the future. I think very little thought goes into these posters as their are $100 million items to be sold.

no it wasnt from that seller - was the other poster which was being offered, is interesting that you say you have seen different signatures, perhaps that is the case, just looked a little sloppy to me.
