TrayvonMartin:New Black Panthers offer $10k bounty, by boatyyy on Mar 26, 2012 10:44:44 GMT 1, surprised not more convo on this on here...
the race issue is not one that is clearly apparent to me yet on this... but 'the hoodie' image is one that is clear... in the so called 'scene' so many go around with hoodies on at all hours of the night (regardless of skin tone/melanin content - it is a very diverse group of artists in urban/street art)
strangely, that banksy print, CYW, with the image with the fella with a hoodie keeps coming to mind... the hoodie... can you imagine that, good grief!
had a very heated discussion with some of the panthers on this - and again lost... cooler heads may need to prevail... but, understandably such as it is...

TrayvonMartin:New Black Panthers offer $10k bounty, by Coach on Mar 26, 2012 11:20:57 GMT 1, I only know what I have heard on uk news. In uk any response to a "threat" has to be proportionate. So if someone threatens to thump you, you can defend yourself, but you can't shoot that person dead. (not saying that is what happened here - I don't know what the "threat" was in this particular case. I'm talking hypothetically.) But am I right that in some states of the US, deadly force can be used even when it is not proportionate to the threat? If that is right, it causes me concern. I am also uncomfortable with the concept of armed neighbourhood watch self appointed guards. But most of all I cannot understand why the person who shot the lad was not at least arrested as part of the investigation. At least then his answers to questions as part of the investigation would be under caution. Overall, a very sad situation, and my heart goes out to the lads family. Just my 2p worth from a relatively (and admitted) position of ignorance.

TrayvonMartin:New Black Panthers offer $10k bounty, by dotdot on Mar 26, 2012 12:18:08 GMT 1, The story as presented so far in the uk is not totally complete. Florida has different laws to other states. The laws regarding guns under 'these circumstances' in the us are not totally known to those of us in the uk.
Anyone in the us / FLA care to help us ?
Otherwise from what I've heard it's a story that some would wish go away - alas this kind of thing.. won't and never will.
Shame it happened ... and a shame that it will probably happen again.
In the UK ? less chance - less guns by a large factor.
... 3 strikes ? scary.

TrayvonMartin:New Black Panthers offer $10k bounty, by mmmike on Mar 26, 2012 14:22:52 GMT 1, As I understand it, Trayvon was walking home through a white community. He was wearing a hoodie and was guilty of being black. The killer called 911 to tell them of a black man walking through the neighborhood. He was following Trayvon at the time. The 911 officer told him not to follow Trayvon but he continued.
Trayvon was on the phone with his girlfriend at the time. He told her he was being followed. She told him to run. He did and the killer shot him. After, the killer told police he felt threatened. Likely after consulting a lawyer. The police let him go. Trayvon was not armed, did not attack at the killer, he was the one being followed. He did have candy in his pocket. Perhaps the killer was afraid of cavities.
Now if the law in Florida says the killing was ok then there is something wrong with Florida.
Putting a bounty on the killer is wrong, not sure if it is as wrong as a "justice" system that says this kind of killing is ok. Something has to give.
