He has kept going, and has evolved, his work is getting better, thats why I like him, He is pushing forward. The only bit of his I have is one LP he kindly sent ages ago with a pic of a lady on it, and its one of my best bits.
I can't really see the connection between SPQR, and I won't even bother with brainwash.
I don't know how much the edition was? was it over ยฃ1000?

I see where you're coming from, I'm not a great lover of a lot of his work though I do have 2 of his canvases that I bought about 5 years ago, he's been around a lot longer than most of these stencil bandwagon mugs, and has had a lot of good shows, including that sell out one a year or so ago in Tokyo.
Good luck to him.

But look a bit deeper and see some of what he has done in the eternal reflection and many of the other pieces and he has done some cracking work. Visit his site
Which he sells but not seen a single time on here where he is bigginging himself up etc he just gets on with it and has done great stuff for well before I saw his work etc nice to see an honest artist and member getting some recognition. Good stuff in my book

I agree with everything you say! Martin is a top bloke. He has been doing his things for years and is incredibly modest.
These are from 2006 and 2007. And are the first thing I see when I walk into my office, like them then and still like them now!

The drip from the heart looks a different colour and the run does not look natural IMO it needs an overspray to the heart again.

I think I might have started all of the Whatson love in ... as you say ... when I originally bought and posted the Eternal Reflection on metal on this forum. I loved it then and I love it now. ;D I posted it on the forum as, imo, he is an artist with a great talent.
Do I like 'all' of his work - No. I had the opportunity you could say to buy 'loads' more of his stuff ... before the love in ... Art - buy what you like and you will not go wrong ...
Gilspeth's beggar lying down is also just stunning and if I had seen/known Martin's work back then in 2006, I would have snapped this piece up as well (gilspeth if you are selling )
Martin has and is evolving as mentioned above - go see his website. He is excellent to deal with, as also mentioned. Geeez my eternal reflection was shipped all the way from Norway! and a lot of UK galleries could learn a thing or two of how to pack an item.

And we are back to where the thread began. Banksy rip off? I do not think so....as banksy does not have a monopoly on stencil work does he. Martins work is unique to his own style. I've already seen people comparing other 'artists' such as Mr Brainwash. The difference is a print like chinook hearts sold out at a price of ยฃ35 each.....if this work was done by the other 'artists' that have been mentioned these would have been ยฃ400 at source and selling for thousands on eBay etc....as unfortunately that's all these fickle art fans know.

Unfortunately if it has banksy's name to it people just buy it and automatically it is 'Great'

I dont see why ppl call this hype. Its low editions at low prices. And you get good quality compared to much else out there.

Nothing is confirmed by the artist in public yet.
But if it does, you don't need to worry. Your edition of 3 will only raise in value if that happens anyway
