Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by killerkellah on May 16, 2008 23:32:58 GMT 1, Why doesnt everyone just leave the lad alone. At least hes more pro active and politically aware than alot of kids his age and older! Who gives u a f**k if hes doing Bush anti war / anti capitalist statements? Are they passe now or something? Theyre relevant as they always were. And in 1984 I was spraying Anti Nazi League graf all over Leeds. Thing is I did it cos that's what I felt - not cos I thought I'd try and drop it at ยฃ250 a pop... It's childish - so charge child size prices... What a load of fu ckin' sh it.... Cartrain - go learn a trade...you're not very good at this -you have no insight, no analysis, nothing new - idealogically or stylistically. You are wasting your time... Or - fu ck off and become good at this, but you ain't even close yet....
and you obviously learned nothing about tolerance and understanding towards others from the ANL?

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by bmjt on May 17, 2008 1:20:06 GMT 1, Nowhere near deserving of ยฃ250, symptomatic of a scene where huge amounts of money are banded around for pieces of work with, in some cases, meagre plateaus of skill, you see someone earning a packet selling stencil prints, you think you can do the same, it's the easy way out, everyone wants to make a quick buck, few are willing to really work their arse off.
Hush Graf Geisha : ยฃ250.......on par with this? I don't think so.

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by hick on May 17, 2008 8:42:58 GMT 1, hmmmm, why is it whenever Cartrain is mentioned , people always say . he is only 16 years old , leave him alone......why? If he is man enough to put work out there then he should be man enough to take critiscism, and not be defended by silky every time (imo), there were kids at cans far better and far more deserving of having works out (copper wrapped in tape) just cause you cn wang up a one colour stencil all over shoreditch and brick lane it doesn't mean you should. he should be at home practicing until he finds his own voice. far play to him but come on, these are not well executed or very intersting, i see his stuff every day on the way to work and , well it isn't very inspiring.
they used to let dogs shit all over london until someone saw sense. I know nearly every young artist on here rides banksys coattails but posting an email from him is shameless, and feels like you are trying to validate your work through him as you didn't answer any critiscim or comments but just posted that. sorry that is how i feel.....

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by uac on May 17, 2008 9:34:28 GMT 1, Cartrain would be better off just doing his work on the streets for a few more years, maybe along side art school study, get his style together and just let it happen naturally. Certainly shouldn't be selling through any form of gallery at this point as it can only be damaging to his possible future career.
If Cartrain needs to fiance his work he would get more respect by selling it though ebay at reasonable prices and let the prices inflate naturally. I would question the morals of any gallery that sells a 16 year olds work, its unfair to give a kid of this age false hope. If both parties are just after making a few quid, well fair dos, but through this forum?

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by jfury on May 17, 2008 9:54:53 GMT 1, ......like the collages they are cool, stencils could do with a bit of work but overall I don't think not to bad at all - room for improvement but that will happen I am sure. He's getting out there making political statements and getting his work up, nothing wrong with that. Everyone always knocks this guy which fair enough everyone is entitled to an opinion, however we all recognise his work, we all know who is and most have an opinion. Either way thats never a bad thing.
Cartrain keep going and keep working and hopefully you will evolve and I will look out for some new stuff/ideas.

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by retroboy on May 17, 2008 10:51:33 GMT 1, Folks,
Thought this piece I'm working on was pretty suitable for this thread
PM me with offers via my gallery of ยฃ1000
In seriousness though, surely the fault should lie with the gallery for putting the price so high. As has been said the artist is young and if he keeps going will no doubt be producing some real quality soon but don't put people off by these high prices..
That's my tuppence worth...

Certainly one for the future When is 100artworks counted as a gallery.. Geordie Flipper from hexham.

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by Wearology on May 17, 2008 21:37:43 GMT 1, Aren't there enough crooked politicians and icons in England that Cartain could concentrate his efforts on. The Bush , Mickey Mouse theme is played but Silky you are a good man to stand by your fellow forum members. Cartain you are a very skilled artist but making fun of Bush at this point is really pointless.

Some very well thought out responses in this thread, particularly from Streetgirl and Rattus.
Not sure about wearology's point about standing by cartrain though. Sometimes it is worth being brutally honest if it is going to benefit the artist in the long run. The gallery have over priced this very mediocre work and this won't do car train any favours. Mate, the stencils are bland and tired. Try something different and ffs, don't let your gallery take the piss over the price.
Hope it works out.

I can't agree with this at all.
I've seen the collages pasted up in the east end this week and they are absolutely cringeworthy. How anyone would be stupid enough to pay anything for them is absolutely beyond me.
Honestly, someone please explain the attraction. Its the sort of stuff your 7 year old kid would bring home from school.
If it is to be deemed at all indicative of this current art movement, then its best to get out now. Shite like that will make the street art scene a mockery.
As for the Cartrain making a political statement....errr, did I miss something? What was that statement? Explain that to me also, as I'm obviously not getting it.
What is he saying that hasn't been said better, much longer ago and in far better executed art.
I don't care how old this kid is, even though apparently he's been 16 for 3 years, if he wants to be leaving his stuff on the street and asking people to part with their hard earned, then try to have some original ideas. Look at the struggles that kids his (apparent) age are having in the world, and in London particularly, there are lots of political statements to be made...just stop trying to be a poor mans Banksy and try being yourself.
I say ditch the name as you'll never be respected whilst people can remember this recent tat, go away, think about what you are trying to achieve and come back as a proper artist with solid ideas that are properly executed - not a sychophant and a plagerist.

I am not sure what I would do if I were you, but I think a lot of the criticism here, really belongs to 100artworks.

excellent points here chillpill, the mickey/bush theme is such a cliche it is cringe-making.
i also would say that technically the stenciling is poor, certainly nowhere near ready for sale, and definitely not at 250 quid! i mean, the queen canvas that bloke has on his wall- why in hell is she wearing sunglasses? couldn't he be bothered with cutting the eyes!
lets look at what your money could get you- an original multi layered incredibly detailed stencil original by logan hicks for ยฃ500+ or a one colour crudely cut stencil by a nobody for 250 quid (not even a one off either)
madness imo

I say ditch the name as you'll never be respected whilst people can remember this recent tat, go away, think about what you are trying to achieve and come back as a proper artist with solid ideas that are properly executed - not a sychophant and a plagerist. excellent points here chillpill, the mickey/bush theme is such a cliche it is cringe-making. i also would say that technically the stenciling is poor, certainly nowhere near ready for sale, and definitely not at 250 quid! i mean, the queen canvas that bloke has on his wall- why in hell is she wearing sunglasses? couldn't he be bothered with cutting the eyes! lets look at what your money could get you- an original multi layered incredibly detailed stencil original by logan hicks for ยฃ500+ or a one colour crudely cut stencil by a nobody for 250 quid (not even a one off either) madness imo

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by nacional on May 19, 2008 20:24:09 GMT 1, But the boy sure does generate posts, be they positive or negative. And quick on the heels of the "any kind of publicity is..." idea comes attention, sales and....money.
Will a /5 by Cartrain be worth thousand in years to come...stupider things have happened.

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by felix on May 19, 2008 20:39:12 GMT 1, One thing on his plus side is he has been doing his stencils for a while now and hasn't just done it to jump on the bandwagon. He also seems to enjoy what he does and seems to love to get his stuff on the street (next to his idol most of the time) and has balls for a young guy IMO
I think 100artworks has overpriced maybe, but I am sure if you got something direct from Cartrain it would be alot cheaper.
